IT'S GO TIME!!!
Makes sense why'd he wanna do a third film. He clearly likes working with Fuqua, and apparently thinks that franchise / character is worthy enough of returning to again. Also the last film did pretty well, even when people thought it was going to drop.
I enjoyed the first two films, so I'll definitely check this out.

I thought he was focused on working with the best of the best directors now???
Anyways, I really enjoy his Equalizer movies and rewatch them pretty frequently so don’t mind another one at all.

Definitely, I enjoy them as well plus the first two both grossed almost $200 million WW so its a good franchise for him box-office wise. Curious how the 3rd one will do in the COVID/Streaming world we now live in. Hey as long as he works with great auteurs/projects in between these action films, he can do whatever he wants imo.

It sounded like he was kind of retiring from these action films in his red carpet interviews for TTOM and focusing on challenges, but he seems to be drawn and attached to this franchise/character so more power to him. I like this franchise and I'm always down for a Washington/Fuqua project. They obviously enjoy working together.

This probably will be his last one in the franchise, he's too old anyway to keep doing this, it's probably a 2023 release, so by the time it will come out he'll be 69 years, come on.

Denzel still wanted to cash them 20 million dollar checks!
Paul Thomas Anderson movies would pay him 15 dollars and a ham sandwich . He'll do it, but he still wants his crowdpleasers. Things like The Tragedy Of Macbeth are done purely for the art, but good on him that he's keeping up his career long strategy of Popcorn and Prestige, till his legs can't handle it anymore.

Hey man..get that action movie franchise money while you can. Harrison Ford putting on the famous fedora hat on again at age 80 gives hope!

I was expecting this because I know what his filmgraphy looks like .....I mean did people expect him to team up with PTA or do something like this? His history says he would do this totally .....
pacinoyes prediction .......the next one he does afterwards will be a very commercial comedy ......bet on it...
The talk on here has been very funny to me about him working with PTA or "teaming up with DDL!" (yeah right) - but that takes a lot to go from just "talk" to actually "filming" it .........when you approach 70.....it's tough to do anything much less anything "major"
Washington doesn't roll that way and never really has -which is fine in a way - he's his own man - but like I always say his filmography resembles great actors who were not in many great films - for their level of acclaim - he's like Peter O'Toole and Geraldine Page or Jessica Lange a whole lot more than he is like Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep in the quality of his movies .....for the most part - this year he made one of his best ........even when you can't save your filmography .....you can improve it to a certain degree......

At this point, Denzel doesn’t have shit to prove to anyone in terms of performances or filmography, yet he will still be playing challenging roles till he's in the grave . And there are no shortage of great filmmakers or auteurs who want him. They will be building lead roles around him till he's 90, if he ever acts that long. And he'll have to give up the action stuff at some point. He's about to be only the 2nd American actor ever Oscar nominated for a lead Shakespearian role. He is essentially the modern Brando (the only actor I think he needed to compete with in historical terms, or his Ghost at least. He just has that mythical aura that I think Denzel is starting to replicate) or Olivier now in terms of reverence . He's surpassed the 70's legends in that regard, as I've long said would be the case. You even hear some unexpected auteur like Pedro Almodovar call him the " Greatest American Actor" you know he's crossed the rubicon. He'll break or match Jack Nicholson 's Oscar nomination record for male actors as well 3qualiser is all gravy. Bring on the butt-kicking

I said he was like Peter O'Toole (8 Oscar nominations), Gerladine Page (8 Oscar nominations), Jessica Lange (6 Oscar nominations, Triple Crown winner) ......which one of those things sounds like "criticizing" exactly? It's not like I compared him to people who suck.........

And as Quetee rightly said, Equaliser 3 was in the works long before he signed to The Tragedy Of Macbeth or namechecked just wanting to work with guys like PTA, McQueen and Cuaron going forward because of that experience with Coen. He isn't neccesarily contradicting himself.

Just get Cuaron to direct it, Zel. The closest to this happening was when David Cronenberg was supposed to direct Denzel and Tom Cruise in The Matarese Circle, which was based on some airport spy thriller novel. Would have been cool, but I think MGM going bankrupt killed the project. Oh, and when Nicolas Wendig Refn (overrated, but still an arty auteur) almost directed The Equalizer with Denzel before being replaced by Fuqua.

I didn’t know it was already greenlit and ready to go with a script, so it’s probably been on his docket for awhile now, before the premiere/press junket for TTOM and mentioning the auteurs he wanted to work with. This could be his last big action film as he nears 70 but if it’s successful, who knows.

Just get Cuaron to direct it, Zel. Have Cuarón do every threequel. Hell, convince Disney to write off The Rise of Skywalker and replace it with whatever Cuarón comes up with.

This is kind of what bugs me about Denzel, these long stretches of doing mediocre action movies and thrillers. There was all the talk of a PTA movie or King Lear but then this is what gets announced. I guess I just don't get it, he's got to have enough money for his whole family to be set up for life once he's gone, he's an established enough star where he doesn't need to do movies like this to stay "relevant". Really seems like the only thing he'd be concerned about is quality at this point.

Really seems like the only thing he'd be concerned about is quality at this point. Money talks and bullshit walks, but it's clear he enjoys making these, and he's known for having long-standing relationships with directors that he enjoys working with (Spike, Tony, Antoine). Now I do hope that he seasons in some proper auteur projects in there because he's not a young man anymore and I don't want some Irishman shenanigans to have to animate his geriatric ass, but ultimately it'll depend on the auteur.
