I was going to do this next week, but decided why not, the movie is about the end of the world. Tonight is the end of the year. Don't Look Up is ranked #6 in my power rankings. Despite its 55% approval rating per RottenTomatoes.com, DLU has a pretty passionate fanbase. Here are its key awards attention:
BEST PICTURE - AFI Top Ten honors. Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominee. BEST ACTOR (Leonardo Dicaprio) - Golden Globe nominee. BEST ACTRESS (Jennifer Lawrence) - Golden Globe nominee. BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY - Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominee. BEST SCORE - Critics Choice nominee. BEST SONG ("Just Look up") - Critics Choice nominee.
That's 6 category. Adam McKay's other satires about government/corporate corruption and human stupidity, Vice and The Big Short, received much more awards attention.

Not sure anymore. Now that I've watched it I totally buy AMPAS going for it as the overdirected and sanctimonious glorified PSA that it is, but I do think some people will feel their frustrations really validated by it and others will find it entertaining and unique, both of which it occasionally is. I could even see them nominating Streep, Blanchett or even Rylance (if Rockwell could do it ) if they really like it. but I'm erring on the side of caution. I'll say it gets three noms: Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Original Song, and leave it at that. I'm very close to predicting DiCaprio at this point after sticking with Dinklage for months. DLU has a lot of hype right now and Cyrano doesn't.

I don't see any wins for it.
My votes were for Picture, Screenplay, and Song.

Picture Leo Screenplay Song Editing These plus Director Who do you think McKay replaces from the 'predicted 5'?

Picture, Director (ugh), Actor, Original Screenplay, Editing, Score and Song.
But I definitely think both supporting categories are on the table, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit of Lawrence broke in, too.
This film is about to hit hard with the industry. The discourse around it is very loud at the perfect time for it.

There are people who were absolutely not here for it, but there's also a fair amount who were (and a few industry people who responded favorably to it).

For those of you who voted for best film editing for DLU, keep in mind, that the pretty much everybody voted for Belfast, Dune, WSS, TPOTD, and LP for best film editing. The Academy only does 5 nominees.

Who do you think McKay replaces from the 'predicted 5'? PTA Yeah, I think he's the most vulnerable of the 5 too. Still have him tentatively making it in over McKay though, for now at least.

Definitely getting in for Picture, Screenplay, & Supporting Actor
Leo and Song are strong contenders to get in right now.
As for McKay the vulnerability of other directors such as Denis, PTA... and maybe Branagh could help him in.
Same for Jennifer Lawrence if she's campaigned as S Actress; doubtful if campaigned for Actress, I think.
Predicting AND supporting Rylance for the win.

Predicting it for 6 - Picture, Actor, Original Screenplay, Editing, Score, Song.
Director, Actress, Supporting Actress (either Blanchett or Streep) seem quite plausible too.

Predicting AND supporting Rylance for the win. This is what faith is, JangoB . As far as acting MVPs, I think Dicaprio, Lawrence, and Morgan were easily the MVPs. While I did appreciate Streep Trump-meets-Hilary impersonation, there was something off about the performance.

What is your prediction for best film editing? Based on my count from the others, Belfast, West Side Story, Power of the Dog, Dune, and LP have already made the top 5 lineup.

At this point I'm having: - Belfast - West Side Story - Dune - Don't Look Up - Licorice Pizza I'm really in doubt as far as Pizza vs. Dog is concerned (or maybe it's tick, tick...BOOM! that's gonna be here?) but I'm kinda confident in the other four (including DLU).

The discourse around it is very loud at the perfect time for it. Yeah this is where I am now too. I don’t think critics reception matters at all for it, and it might actually help since I could see some voters thinking that critics are clueless when they’ve had low rated films that were rated unfairly by critics. Picture * Director Actor Original Screenplay * Editing * Score Song I’m assuming the asterisks are wins, and I agree with this too. Right now I think Belfast and TPOTD are still ahead of it, but by phase two, I think it could surpass those two. I really have doubts about Belfast because while on paper it seems like it has all the makings of a winner (crowd pleasing story that’s also about the power of movies, personal story from a former nominee that’s been nominated across many who has worked in the Industry a long time, a lot of praise for its ensemble, TIFF winner), but at least for me it just feels like the winner because everything else has even more negatives. So I feel like it’s very vulnerable. With TPOTD I think it could be huge winning Director and Adapted Screenplay and perhaps even 2 acting awards, and in that scenario, I could also see it winning Best Picture especially as it's dominated critics awards. Still the audience scores worry me, and it’s been awhile since a really big sweep, and every time I predict it, it never happens lol.

Streep and Rylance would be downright embarrassing choices on the Academy’s part…
