An absolute king of the game. Great commentator too. Miss him in the 90s and 00s.
Raiders were an absolute juggernaut franchise that he built or at least enhanced to a great degree. They remained elite at least for a while longer after he left but sank into the black hole after. Besides a brief period of greatness the first time Gruden was there (and passed the Super Bowl team to his successor) they are the black hole of the NFL nowadays.
Will miss this guy greatly. One of my all time favorite guys associated with the NFL.

Not a big fan of football, but as a child in a one television household for a lot of her life, Madden was one of the few commentators that I actually liked listening too. Always loved his Thanksgiving game too. In fact, I could really go for Turducken leg right now in honor of Madden’s memory.

The '76 Raiders team that won the Super Bowl is maybe the coolest (and best) football team of all time - they went 13 and 1, rolled over everyone to the Super Bowl and were just amazing and hilarious personalitites ....they also avenged the only team that beat them that year in the playoffs (Patriots) and they for once destroyed Pittsburgh who always found ways to beat them or they'd have won more Super Bowls in other years. Quarterback was to be kind, a no arm having guy who liked to drink (Ken Stabler), they had the original Gronk (Dave Casper), several deranged borderline criminals on defense.......their wide receiver used so much stickum its unreal (Fred Biletnikoff) and insanely funny.....and they were all hard to coach too! I'd argue the best team to only win one SB with that core of guys and I think that specific year they were once voted THE single greatest team ever in Sports Illustrated - should be a movie about that team and Coach Madden and their bad ass uniforms RIP Coach

I hear stories about how Pittsburgh-Oakland-Dallas were the original beasts of the late 70s and that generation of giants achieved a special kind of football glory.

Nah, I just heard stories from the team from my uncle about when football was football and men were men........he was a crazy old guy......played soccer with a human head in Vietnam .......used to brush his teeth with grain alcohol ..........I once saw him rip out a man's heart through his chest and literally show it to him before that man died .............old school masculinity baby. I recently celebrated my 14th birthday........I enjoy Marvel movies and going on Twitter and shit like that ...........like all the other good people here on MAR

Sporting legend, broadcasting legend, video game legend. What a titan. Right after that doc came out too. What a gift for timing.

RIP. Dad watched football all the time so I knew Madden as a sports broadcaster first. I enjoyed his passion for the game. It made watching the game itself fun.

Watched the new doc last night. Great stuff. Was introduced to the guy through the video game (07 was my first, one of the last that he did game commentary on) and learned about his accomplishments as a coach through the little history factoids they’ll have in the game
Watching the doc it really seemed like everyone knew the guy was dying real soon and wanted to get this out for him before that happened so he could see it. Think it’s safe to say the guy died happy and fulfilled
