Here's another remake getting major best picture attention: Dune, #5 on my best picture power rankings.
BEST PICTURE - Globes and Critics Choice nominee. AFI Top Ten winner. BEST DIRECTOR - Globes and Critics Choice nominee. BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY - Critics Choice nominee. BEST FILM EDITING - Critics Choice nominee. BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY - Critics Choice nominee. BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN - Critics Choice nominee. BEST MAKEUP - Critics Choice nominee. BEST VISUAL EFFECTS - Critics Choice nominee. BEST SCORE - Globe and Critics Choice nominee. BEST COSTUME DESIGN - Critics Choice nominee.
That's 10 categories. No acting recognition whatsoever.
Does anybody believe Dune is going to win Best Picture? How about Best Director? How many nominations? Will it get any acting nominations?
Personally I see Dune as the next Hugo or Mad Max. It'll clean up in the technical awards, but will have problems winning anything major, besides best film editing.

Predicting it for 10 so far:
- Picture - Director - Cinematography - Production Design - Editing - Original Score - Costume Design - Sound - Visual Effects - Makeup
It's definitely our tech biggie of the year. I'm not yet convinced about it getting nominated for Screenplay though...but that category is weak enough for it to sneak there if there're voters who'll think that they successfully adapted the supposedly unadaptable.

This is definitely the Fury Road of the year. I think it's getting 8-9 nominations at the least.

Predicting noms in all 11 categories. Most vulnerable for screenplay but feels totally safe for everything else.

Wait, who isn't predicting it for Picture and Director?? I was shocked when I woke up yesterday, and saw that 2 posters here didn't think Dune was going to get nominated for picture and director. Obviously, crazy stuff has happened before, like Almost Famous missing a Best Picture nomination or Kathryn Bigelow and Ben Affleck missing out on a best director nomination. But with 10 spots and the academy gravitation toward epic adventures and cumbersome book adaptations, I find it odd like you.

Actually I'll add screenplay to this so now I'm predicting 11 nominations for it.
