Now lets talk about SAG Best Supporting Actress. The Globes and Critics Choice nominated Caitriona Balfe, Ariana DeBose, Kirsten Dunst, and Aunjanue Ellis for best supporting actress. The Globes nominated Ruth Negga from Passing. The Critics Choice nominated Rita Morena from West Side Story and Ann Dowd from Mass. Kathryn Hunter from The Tragedy of Macbeth won the NY Film Critics best supporting actress trophy. Other strong contenders here are Judi Dench for Belfast and Marlee Matlin for CODA, and Cate Blanchett for Nightmare Alley. Good luck on that 5th nominee.
Mine predictions are Balfe, DeBose, Dunst, Ellis, and Hunter. That last spot is a really up in the air. I'll go with the respected theater veteran, Hunter, for that final spot.

Caitríona Balfe Ariana DeBose Kirsten Dunst Aunjanue Ellis Rita Moreno (SAG loves their veterans)
I'm predicting Ruth Negga to replace Moreno in Oscar's lineup, though.

Balfe, DeBose, Dunst, Ellis, Negga.
West Side Story not getting screeners out makes me think a double-nod is unlikely, but it could happen. No one wants a Hunter nod more than me, but that's a longshot at best.
Also, I'm just gonna say it: watch out for Ann Dowd here. She and Bleecker Street have been going hard at SAG screenings.

Balfe DeBose Dunst Ellis Matlin
Not sure DeBose makes it with the screener issue. I don’t remember SAG ever blind voting, but hopefully she’s enough of a frontrunner that she'll still make it.
Would have went with Moreno for the last spot of it weren’t for the screener issues, but I can see CODA playing very well to SAG with Matlin being replaced by Negga at the Oscars.

Are you thinking an ensemble nomination for Mass is in the cards? There’s no film that is more deserving…

There’s no film that is more deserving… I would love it because as you say, no film is more deserving for it, but I definitely don't see it happening. But all four deserve to be in contention, and I still can't believe Isaacs isn't a lock for Supporting Actor in this barren-ass field.

Ariana DeBose, West Side Story Rita Moreno, West Side Story Cate Blanchett, Nightmare Alley Nina Arianda, Being the Ricardos Judi Dench, Belfast
NGNG alt - I see the SAG site has Stillwater among their digital screeners - would do anything for a Camille Cottin nod.

That does seem to be the mentality with a lot of your predictions.

That does seem to be the mentality with a lot of your predictions. If you think that top five isn’t reasonable, just wait till the Lead SAG threads…

FIY folks, the West Side Story digital screener did finally arrive for the SAG people so they have until Jan 9 to watch it.
I'm going with the obvious Balfe-DeBose-Dunst-Ellis-Negga five but I think instead of Negga they can throw a bone to a veteran (Moreno or Dench) or actually nominate one of the DLU actresses - Streep or Blanchett. I was seriously considering putting one of them DLU ladies in here but I couldn't decide which so I just went with the default five.
