Our next best picture review is West Side Story, Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner's remake of the 1961 film. According to my own power ranking, this is #4 on my list.
So far, here are its awards attention:
BEST PICTURE - Globe and Critics Choice Nominee. AFI Top Ten winner. BEST DIRECTOR - Globe and Critics Choice Nominee. BEST ACTRESS (Rachel Zegler) - Globe nominee + NBR Best Actress win BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS (Ariana DeBose) - Globe and Critics Choice Nominee. LA Film Critics winner. BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS (Rita Moreno) - Critics Choice Nominee. BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY - Critics Choice Nominee. BEST FILM EDITING - Critics Choice Nominee. BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY - Critics Choice Nominee. NY Film Critics winner. BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN - Critics Choice Nominee. BEST COSTUME DESIGN - Critics Choice Nominee.

I don’t know about the techs, but I’ll say that it only gets one above the line win for Best Supporting Actress.
Of course if DeBose misses SAG due to screener issues, I’ll have to rethink my prediction. I know SAG only got 50% of the acting winners right last year, but I think if Balfe wins SAG, she’ll just go on to win BAFTA and the Oscar. I’m not sure DeBose would be able to overcome that especially since I don’t think West Side Story is going to win Best Picture now.

Predicting the following:
- Picture
- Director
- Supporting Actress - DeBose
- Supporting Actress - Moreno
- Adapted Screenplay
- Cinematography
- Production Design
- Editing
- Costume Design
- Sound
10 nominations. Pretty confident in all of those except Moreno but I do think that her awesome narrative may eventually help her get in. Plus it's a pretty sizeable part with a big emotional crescendo.
As far as wins go, I think there's every possibility of it joining movies like The Irishman and True Grit with 10 nominations and no wins at all. On the other hand, DeBose certainly seems like a solid bet at the moment, and maybe the movie will take some techs. I think Editing and Costume Design seem like the most plausible ones at the moment - Dune will probably eat up the other ones.

If Spielberg maneged nominations for warvhorse and the Post. Why not West Side Story.
But despite the music, i dont like the musical, and I m tired of Spielberg.

probably overpredicting it but I think it's in play for everything but makeup at have it getting 11 noms. Currently predicting Moreno and Faist and Zegler would benefit from a surprise snub in best actress (and there's always a snub) because I think she's at #6.
