This will be my last one for the week.
The awards attention so far:
BEST PICTURE - Globe and Critics Choice nominee. Won the Toronto Film Festival Best Picture award.
BEST DIRECTOR - Globe and Critics Choice nominee.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR (Jamie Dornan) - Globe and Critics Choice nominee
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR (Ciarán Hinds) - Globe and Critics Choice nominee. NBR winner.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS (Caitríona Balfe) - Globe and Critics Choice nominee
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY - Globe and Critics Choice nominee
BEST FILM EDITING - Critics Choice nominee
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY - Critics Choice nominee
BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN - Critics Choice nominee
BEST SONG - Globe nominee
10 categories.
How significant is the Toronto win? Lets review. 12 of the last 13 winners went on to score a Best Picture nomination. 5 have won Best Picture. In the last five years, they have won at least one major Guild Best Picture award -- PGA, DGA, SAG Ensemble, or WGA. Nomadland won PGA and DGA. Jojo Rabbit won WGA. Green Book won the PGA. Billboards won SAG Ensemble. La La Land won PGA and DGA. This is why I have it as my #1 seed so to speak. I am going to get be very stubborn about this one.
How about you?

I think it’s safe for a large amount of noms. I think the biggest question for me is if it lands 2 supporting actor noms and if not then who gets in between Hinds (more likely) and Dornan. And while I think Branagh is pretty safe for a Director nom, I don’t think it’s out of the range of realistic outcomes that he ends up getting snubbed.

Picture Director Supporting Actress Supporting Actor - Hinds Original Screenplay Film Editing Cinematography Sound Song
9 categories. I'm also curious if Dornan sticks it out. Production design is on the table because Jim Clay's work is really good and AMPAS eats this kind of stuff up but the category is so stacked this year that I'm not predicting it in the top 5. I think costume design is off the table.

Let's see...
Picture, Director (ugh), Balfe, Hinds and Original Screenplay seems like sure bets. Editing should be fairly safe too.
I'm not a 100% sure about Dornan but the category seems weak enough for him to get in. Maybe Dench will somehow pop up in the same manner too.
Cinematography is a question mark for me...If Nightmare Alley is truly DOA, Belfast will be here. If not, I can't really see it breaking the Dune, Macbeth, NA, WSS, Doge five.
Production design will probably get nominated although I didn't find it that impressive or expansive which this category usually favors. The field is pretty stacked too.
Song seems like a good bet. And maybe even Sound although, again, it's nothing much to write home about and will be a 'We love this movie' nomination if anything.
At the moment I'm predicting:
Picture Director Balfe Hinds Dornan Original Screenplay Production Design Editing Song Sound
A whooping 10 nominations. Which seems weird considering how small this film actually is. But here we are.

oh yeah I actually am not sure it gets in for cinematography. That 5th slot is a toss-up between Belfast and Nightmare Alley with both Spencer and Green Knight behind them. Right now I'm predicting Dune, Power of the Dog, Macbeth, West Side Story, and Nightmare Alley (having now seen it and yes it's gorgeous) for cinematography with Belfast right there at #6.
so a minimum of 8 categories if it misses for cinematography and Dornan, and 11 if it gets in for those and production design.

It feels crazy not to predict a B&W Best Picture frontrunner for Cinematography but there we go. Unless I see some sort of a total guild floppage from Nightmare Alley, I'll stick to predicting it as a #5. The other four feel sorta safe to me.

As much as I liked Belfast I can't imagine preferring Zambarloukos to Laustsen but we'll see what the guilds say

I completely forgot to add Best Song to the list. Does anybody think Belfast will get a Best Original Song nomination?
