Only four times has a film won Best Picture without a SAG Ensemble nomination. You had Braveheart, The Shape of Water, Green Book, and Nomadland. However in 3 of the last 4 seasons, the Best Picture winner did not receive a Best Ensemble nomination.
CRITICS CHOICE BEST ENSEMBLE NOMINEES
Belfast Don't Look Up The Harder They Fall Licorice Pizza The Power of the Dog (Satellite awards honored it as ensemble of the year) West Side Story
Other strong contenders are Dune, King Richard, CODA, In the Heights, and The Tragedy of Macbeth.

I dunno but TPoTD should win and I think will - it is a true and sneaky ensemble where all 4 of the characters interact at different points - and are kept apart at other - crucial points - "hidden" by the screenplays ingenious structure - it's carefully constructed at a script level to bolster the whole ensemble - in some ways it's like a mini-Godfather Part II in how it's written (which is why some people don't really "get" the movie) - this was mentioned in my initial review of this movie btw : movie-awards-redux.freeforums.net/thread/21056/power-dog?page=1DLU and TToM could over perform here - like I always say TToM could get 3 Oscar nods or 9 and if it gets 9 it gets a lot at SAG......... Licorice Pizza doesn't deserve this ensemble "winning" talk this year imo (not sure it deserves a nomination either - and I liked it a lot) - nobody is "great" in the movie though Cooper and Haim are wonderful in their own ways......but there are better ensemble acting choices this year. Watch out here for House of Gucci which is obviously one of those weird (maybe) SAG things where actors like to see actors doing the most acting possible....and people just wish they could have been in it and wear fabulous clothes and do fun accents

I'm thinking:
- Belfast - The Power of the Dog - West Side Story - CODA - King Richard
Obviously The Power of the Dog should be here but I feel they may snub it a-la The Shape of Water while nominating the key central performances.
I actually think that WSS might miss too simply because Disney apparently hasn't sent screeners yet. This always seems to be an important thing for a successful SAG showing. I'm predicting it but that fact makes me a bit iffy about its chances even though it seems like it'd be a perfect nominee here.
Don't Look Up, The Harder They Fall, Licorice Pizza and even Being the Ricardos seem like strong contenders too. Packed category this year.

And fully agree with all your contenders listed being strong options.

Lady Gaga and to some degree Jared Leto are getting really good praise.
Which five films did you pick?

Which five films do you pick? Right now I'm thinking these 5 below but TToM, King Richard, HoG and Licorice Pizza are really close imo especially KR..... I just think the star power of DLU sneaks in.......more of a gut level guess. Btw - I know not many have seen it yet but one of the interesting things about TToM is how the performances are not really integrated at all - like Washington suffers and goes mad almost apart from McDormand's madness - both of them are quite good in the movie but almost in isolation in how it's done - even when they are together they are separated - and no one really interacts with Hunter either - Hunter is not in combination with them.......like it may get an ensemble nomination but it is not really an ensemble as we traditionally think of one........this is a big thing to watch imo - if TToM gets in here - it's a big tip-off about things being good for it on Oscar day....... Belfast The Power of the Dog West Side Story CODA DLU

Locks or near ones:
Belfast Don't Look Up Power of the Dog West Side Story
The last one is tough. Could be CODA, Licorice Pizza, House of Gucci, or something else entirely.

I am not sure about DLU being a nominee. Yes, the film features everybody in Hollywood, but that doesn't necessarily transfer to a SAG Ensemble nomination. Keep in mind that Knives Out didn't get a SAG Ensemble nomination. I am skeptical of DLU because of its shaky reviews.

To be fair, DLU didn't quite have DiCaprio, Lawrence, Blanchett and Streep either. If the industry loves the movie, the reviews won't matter. I feel weird not including it in my five, tbh. Just not sure what to remove...

This is not about directing, writing, production.

The criteria is still "Acting Ensemble".
How else do you explain Nomadland being snubbed after it had dominated the Best Picture wins. It wasn't an ensemble driven film and most of the supporting cast were non actors.

I feel like CODA is in a pretty good spot for a nom.
Also worth noting, West Side Story still haven't sent screeners, like to anyone.

Best Ensemble/Cast doesn't automatically best large ensemble. Million Dollar Baby got nominated for Best Ensemble, and they had only three nominees. Key and Peele got nominated for best ensemble, and there were only two nominees. How do you explain The Favourite not being nominated for Best Cast/Ensemble? Bottom line is simple: they are going to go for the MOVIE first and foremost. Nomadland didn't get in because it was the Frances McDormand show.

Belfast King Richard CODA
I think these three are locked
I have Don’t Look Up as a solid fourth here. For the fifth spot, I have no idea.. Being the Ricardos makes some sense, but the audience ratings are surprisingly not that great. I could see any of BtR, Gucci, WSS (depending on when screeners are sent out) possibly even Tick Tick Boom getting in for the fifth spot.
The ones that I’m sure won’t happen are Licorice Pizza and Power of the Dog. The latter is the Manchester by the Sea/The Favourite of 2021. Each got three acting noms because their buzz was pretty undeniable but missed ensemble because SAG didn’t actually like those movies. That’s definitely going to happen with Power of the Dog as well.

You know, I'll go NGNG (if it counts as such) and replace The Power of the Doge with Don't Look Up. The former gives me too much of a Shape of Water vibe and iheartamyadams's mentions of Manchester and The Favourite are quite sensible too. Therefore: - Belfast - West Side Story - CODA - King Richard - Don't Look Up

I'll put it like this - it's somehow easier for me to imagine Doge missing here than DLU...

Keep in mind that Knives Out didn't get a SAG Ensemble nomination. I am skeptical of DLU because of its shaky reviews. The reviews are meaningless. This is obviously very popular with audiences and probably very well liked by the industry.

So far, BELFAST, DON'T LOOK UP, THE POWER OF THE DOG, and WEST SIDE STORY are leading the pack by a couple of miles. For that fifth spot, we have CODA, LICORICE PIZZA, and KING RICHARD pretty much tied. I have four votes for "other", but I see nowhere they posted their "other" option. Unless people explain which other option, it's going to count toward our consensus SAG predictions.
