BEST ACTOR
There are two locks in this category: Will Smith for KING RICHARD and Benedict Cumberbatch for THE POWER OF THE DOG. You can make it down as a guaranteed. Both actors scored Globe and Critics Choice best actor trophy, and already won at least one major Best Actor trophy. Andrew Garfield, Denzel Washington, and Peter Dinklage received both a Globe and Critics Choice nomination. Javier Bardem and Mahershala Ali scored Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor in a Drama. Nicolas Cage nabbed a Best Actor nomination from the Critics Choice. Leonardo Dicaprio, Cooper Hoffman, and Anthony Ramos scored Best Actor nominations from the Globes in the Comedy/Musical category. Ryusuke Hamaguchi won the Boston Film Critics Best Actor award. Other potential nominees are Bradley Cooper, Timothee Chalamet, Ansel Algort, or Jude Hill.
BEST ACTRESS
You can bank on three names being mentioned: Kirsten Stewart for SPENCER, Lady Gaga for HOUSE OF GUCCI, and Alana Haim for LICORICE'S PIZZA. All three ladies scored Best Actress nominations from the Globes and Critics Choice, and won a major acting prize. Stewart at Chicago. Gaga at New York. Haim at Boston. That leaves two spots open. We have Jessica Chastain, Olivia Colman, and Nicole Kidman received both Critics Choice and Globe Best Actress nominations. Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, and Rachel Zegler received Best Actress attention from the Globes. The other stronger contender here is Emilia Jones for CODA and Penelope Cruz for PARALLEL MOTHERS.
Who do you guys got?
Supporting Actor and Actress is for next week.

Chastain Colman Gaga Kidman Stewart This is where I'm at, not just at SAG but at the Oscars as well. No one's a bigger PTA stan than I am, but I think Haim is a longshot at SAG. She's not a known quantity and since SAG's voting membership expanded in recent years, they're likely going to go for the bigger names and/or bigger films. I do think Licorice Pizza stands a strong shot at an Ensemble nod, though, so I imagine she'll still show up there.

Chastain Colman Gaga Kidman Stewart This is what I'm thinking as well, but it wouldn't surprise me if Jennifer Hudson were to replace Olivia Colman in SAG's lineup...

Hudson not making the Globe lineup makes me think she's done, and I also don't think Colman's the vulnerable one of the five. But it's possible.

I think Haim has an excellent chance of breaking into the C5 because her performance is definitely the kind that will get a lot of very passionate #1 votes, which is usually what results in a "surprise" nominee breaking into the expected 5. Same reason I think Cage has a much better chance of getting that 5th slot in Lead Actor than most think right now (although admittedly, he's considerably more of a longshot than Haim). Licorice Pizza is gonna be a beloved film for those who like it, and with all due respect to young Hoffman (who's quite good & has a promising career), she is definitely the shining beating heart & soul of the film. A starmaking turn in every sense of the word.

Chastain is DEFINITELY the most vulnerable of the "Consensus 5". She's the one I'm predicting gets edged out by Haim at the Oscars. Tbh, I think Colman might even be ahead of Gaga.

I can't see Garfield missing - or Denzel who is very popular with SAG. I can't see Kidman and Colman missing - who are very respected by SAG. I don't expect Haim to get in. She too much of an unknown to the SAG membership.

Quite frankly, I don't buy the argument one bit. Jennifer Lawrence was a newcomer back in 2010, and she got a SAG nomination. Ditto for John David Washington for BlacKKKlansman, Lady Gaga for A Star is Born, Timothee Chalamet for Call Me By Your Name, Daniel Kaluuya for Get Out, Lucas Hedges for Manchester By the Sea, Barkhad Abdi, and so forth.
Can you provide examples for your thesis here? Can you point to "newcomers" (however you care to define) which scored Critics Choice and Globe acting nominations, but didn't score a SAG nomination?
It seems like a pretty unfounded claim. Personally, I think she's pretty much a lock, especially considering how popular her film is and the intense buzz around her performance.
