Thought this would be fun because of those shaky reviews for DLU Dr. Strangelove got 4 big nods total - Picture, Actor, Director, Screenplay
DLU could double that.........and get those same categories even........or it could strikeout altogether Poll stays up for December

Hehe DLU tbh. Despite the reviews I still think it's gonna appeal to the Academy. It's perhaps the most socially/politically relevant film of the season, Hollywood seems to love McKay and if there's anything Hollywood loves more than McKay it's the opportunity to pat itself on the back. And it seems like this movie's gonna give it a good chance to do that. So I'm still pretty certain that we're looking at a BP nominee here. I see folks mentioning that Vice, despite its reviews, did so well because it was a biopic about a real-life figure but I think it's done so well because of McKay's approach to that figure. They wouldn't have nominated a straight Cheney biopic - it's that McKay smugness and satirical finger-pointing that got'em so excited. And I see the same thing happening with DLU, even though it's a made-up story about a comet. We all know it's a climate change movie and it's even more relevant now because of Covid and people refusing to listen to scientists and all that. I think a lot of AMPAS members will eat that up. So as far as the nod count goes, I'm thinking: - Picture - Actor - Original Screenplay - Editing - Original Score - Original Song I'm not predicting all that with too much confidence but that's where I am at the moment.

As i said before, DLU will go the Jojo Rabbit route, mixed/negative response from critics but beloved by industry folks and general audiences.

This is tough. I think that the love of McKay could come to an end eventually as it did for Russell, Daldry, etc., but JangoB nailed it as to why his films will appeal to certain voters even as critics rip them apart. So I guess I’ll vote for more nominations than Dr. Strangelove.

I have DLU getting Picture, Screenplay, Editing and song so not more than Strangelove but not less. Been seeing a lot of mixed feedback both from critics and viewers. Still think it gets in but there are bigger contenders that will edge it out of the other categories.

I still think it's getting in for Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actress (never bet against Streep, as much as I am loath to say it), Supporting Actor is still in play considering how in flux that category is, Original Screenplay, Editing, Score and Song. Vice did benefit from them holding the embargo as late as possible that season, but I feel like all Don't Look Up has to do is not be a disaster at the box office and it'll be fine.
As far as wins go, that's another story.

Well I don't think it's beating Strangelove for major nods. I've been saying for a while Don't Look Up is just going to get Leo, no BP/Director/Screenplay. It might get more total nods due to techs.
Regardless of Oscar nods I'm pretty much 99% sure this is not going to be as good as Dr. Strangelove and that people will still be talking about Strangelove in 50 years but have forgotten completely about this.
