Why do people assume that the Oscars are an international award? Yes, they've awarded foreign performances and films, from time to time, but AMPAS is an American institution, first and foremost. Do people expect the same of the Césars or Goyas? (I don't count the BAFTAs as a 'foreign' award, because they've ingratiated themselves with the Oscars.) I am well aware that the Oscars are an American award honey. He asked which of her performances I myself would have awarded her for.

For which of her nominated performances would you have awarded her? None. Long Day's Journey Into Night is the closest but that year is ridiculous with lead actress performances. When you consider all the international gals (Andersson, Papas, etc.) she's lucky to make a top 10. And that performance would win in other years. I also love her in stuff like Desk Set and The Trojan Women a lot and she's quite high up for those. But I actually find it's often with her that her stronger work is in an incredible year. I actually meant if you were an Academy member, how would you have voted those years from the nominees? But, as always, thank you for your replies!

Perhaps my English is not as good as we all think it is, haha. I wouldn't have given her a win for any of her nominations though still. Victim of strong years. If she had been nominated for Trojan Women I would have been happy to see either her, Christie, or Suzman win from the nominees. And I liked the other 3 nominees quite a lot too. But of her actual nominations she has never quite been the best in her category. Morning Glory she's the 2nd best (behind Robson) for me, but even her stronger nommed performances like Long Day's Journey come in extremely competitive Oscar years, let alone outside of the 5 nominees!!!!
