So NBR announces their winners in a little over two weeks from now, but I thought it might be fun to do a predictions thread for them, as their tastes are usually some of the more established that there is (i.e. if Clooney or Eastwood are in play, predict them across the board).
So here's the list of categories, and let's see how close (or far) to the mark we are in a couple weeks:

My predictions:
BEST FILM: Licorice Pizza
TOP 10 FILMS: Being the Ricardos, Belfast, Dune, House of Gucci, King Richard, The Last Duel, The Power of the Dog, Spencer, The Tender Bar (never bet against their love for Clooney) and The Tragedy of Macbeth (I'm not sure if they'll have seen Don't Look Up or West Side Story yet.)
TOP 10 INDEPENDENT FILMS: Annette, C'mon, C'mon, CODA, The French Dispatch, The Green Knight, The Lost Daughter, Passing, Pig, Red Rocket, Zola
BEST DIRECTOR: Jane Campion, The Power of the Dog
BEST ACTOR: Will Smith, King Richard
BEST ACTRESS: Tessa Thompson, Passing (call me crazy, but I think NBR's gonna go afield of the presumed five here and throw the race into disarray)
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Ben Affleck, The Last Duel & The Tender Bar
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Ann Dowd, Mass
BEST ENSEMBLE: Licorice Pizza
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Paul Thomas Anderson, Licorice Pizza
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: Jane Campion, The Power of the Dog
BEST DOCUMENTARY: Summer Of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised)
BEST FOREIGN FILM: The Worst Person in the World
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE: Flee
OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN CINEMATOGRAPHY: Bruno Delbonnel, The Tragedy of Macbeth
BEST BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE: Alana Haim, Licorice Pizza
BEST DIRECTORIAL DEBUT: Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Lost Daughter
NBR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AWARD: Passing[/quote]

Real talk, I damn near put it on the list, too, but I figured The Tender Bar had more upside. But there's every chance they go hard for Cry Macho and continue the Clint love affair.

Washington & McDormand seem really ominous here and you kind of have to pick them both - this and NYFCC are the big awards that just screams for them .........more than anything else I can think of .......most of the other precursors are Smith and Stewart but here........... NBR BP to me is Power of the Dog ..........

I'm only going to address Best Picture but these are who I view as the likelies
West Side Story- They like Spielberg and movies that they view right before the cut off (The Post, Hugo, A Most Violent Year, Zero Dark Thirty, Letters from Iwo Jima) Dune- You could use Mad Max as a comparison and also Warner Brothers... (Fury Road and also Warner Brothers) King Richard- They can be middle brow somethimes and also Warner Brothers... (The Post, Green Book, Finding Neverland and also Warner Brothers) Licorice Pizza and The Power of the Dog- Also sometimes they go with the big critics favorite (Manchester By the Sea, Zero Dark Thirty, The Social Network, No Country, Her, The Irishman, Letter from Iwo Jima) Belfast- but sometimes they also go with with early Oscar frontrunner even if it doesn't end the season as the favorite (Up in the Air, Slumdog, The Social Network, Manchester By the Sea, Green Book, No Country)

I wonder if they’ll go all in for West Side Story like they did for The Post. I could definitely see them giving Spielberg the Best Director award or Moreno the Best Supporting Actress award. Maybe Zegler for Best Breakthrough as well.

I'm sensing an Andrew Garfield win in Best Actor. A silly thing to speculate on, but with the theater world being rocked by Sondheim's death, I'm wondering how much that might impact the narrative of musicals this year, especially early in the season.

A silly thing to speculate on, but with the theater world being rocked by Sondheim's death, I'm wondering how much that might impact the narrative of musicals this year, especially early in the season. Two of them in particular. West Side Story of course and Tick Tick Boom where he is a character and his voicemail (which was actually recorded by him) is one of the most emotional parts of the movie.

Their BP pick usually doesn't win BP though.
