Pardon the title, I'm still working out the kinks.
Jude Law's 2004 was brought up recently, and got me to thinking, when a big relatively new star emerges, Hollywood is very quick to put them in a lot of movies at once, but sometimes like in the case of Jude Law most of these movies can either flop, and or flounder. However what happens when an actor has multiple movies in one year, and most of them are actually hits, or at least financial successes. Some examples that come to mind include,
Gwyneth Paltrow (1998) - Great Expectations, Hush, Sliding Doors, A Perfect Murder, Shakespeare In Love
Ben Stiller (2004) - Along Came Polly, Envy, Dodgeball, Meet The Fockers, as well as a credited appearance in Anchorman
Jessica Chastain (2011) - most recent example that I can think of, do I have to imagine that some of these movies were held over, and only released after she started popping - Take Shelter, Coriolanus, The Tree of Life, The Help, Texas Killing Fields
Note this can also include actors who had mostly failed years when they were in multiple movies, and I'm not talking about Eric Roberts types of do like 10 plus projects a year that are like extremely low budget. These actors mostly have to be the lead or at least have a major role in these films, and they have to have some kind of release. This is just an idea that has been bubbling in my mind, that I wanted to have a topic of discussion about.

Good topic.
Nicole Kidman has had a couple of years like that.
2001 (Moulin Rouge, The Others, Birthday Girl)
2003 (Dogville, The Human Stain, Cold Mountain)
2018 (Destroyer, Boy Erased, Aquaman)

Alicia Vikander, 2015 (though there were some holdovers from 2014 but were all released in 2015 in the US): The Danish Girl, Ex Machina, The Man From UNCLE, Burnt, The Seventh Son, Son of a Gun, Testament of Youth. That's six!
Jennifer Lawrence, 2012: The Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook, House on the End of the Street.

A more interesting example of this is John Cusack's 1997. Not like he was on the verge of breaking-out or anything, but it was his coming out of his so-called "wilderness years". He was in Grosse Pointe Blank, Con-Air, voiced the male lead in Anastasia, Midnight in The Garden of Good & Evil, and also made a cameo in a small movie he produced called Chicago Cab, though it wasn't released until 1998.

First thought was Edward Norton's 1996. He had Primal Fear, The People vs. Larry Flynt, and Everyone Says I Love You. Quite the debut year
Cillian Murphy also had a big 2005 - Red Eye, Batman Begins, and Breakfast on Pluto.

Was looking up and coming actors, and saw that Rachel McAdams had Red Eye, Wedding Crashers, and The Family Stone in 2005.
I was surprised that some other up and coming actors that I looked didn’t have years like that. Like I thought Gretchen Mol and Sienna Miller had years like that because I remember all the publicity surrounding them, but was sort of surprised that they didn’t.
Then there were actors who I thought it might fit that did have big years.
In 2017, Mark Wahlberg had the sequels to Transformers and Daddy’s Home as well as All the Money in the World.
Michelle Williams also had years like this with 2008 (Deception, Synecdoche, New York, and Wendy and Lucy) and 2010 (Shutter Island, Blue Valentine, and Meek’s Cutoff).
Joaquin Phoenix - 2000 - The Yards, Gladiator, and Quills
Miles Teller - 2016 - I don’t know if Allegiant counts (he also has War Dogs and Bleed for This), but I do feel he was really trying to capture the momentum of Whiplash even though perhaps surprisingly I don’t think he got the kind of big push that say someone like Taylor Kitsch got.

Both Mol and Miller seem to be cases of actors who ran publicity trains, but only worked in like two movies a year at best, which makes complete sense when you think about it. I count Allegiant for Teller, because Hollywood considered him a leading man at the time, it's just that he was caught up in a lot of franchise fair at the time as well.

I think Cusack was actually doing alright in his "wilderness years". From 1990 to 1996, he had The Grifters, Bullets Over Broadway , The Road To Wellville (opposite Anthony Hopkins at the peak of his movie stardom) and City Hall ( mostly forgotten film, but co-lead opposite Al Pacino still at his peak). He had some total flops in that time, but that still seems like a healthy output for that time. I'd agree that Grosse Pointe Blank and Con-Air took him to a new level of leading man stardom though.

Naomi Watts -
2014 (Birdman, While We’re Young, and St. Vincent. All comedies too which is outside her wheelhouse, so doubly impressive considering their success)
2007 (Eastern Promises & Funny Games. Acclaimed auteur vehicles.)

Oh yeah, I agree he showing up in some noteworthy movies around that time. It's just that from 1991 to 1995, the vast majority of the films he was in seem to be either forgotten, or extremely obscure, so it felt like his career was in an extremely weird place, prior to 1997.

Denzel Washington in 1993
- Much Ado About Nothing - The Pelican Brief - Philadelphia
2 of them critically acclaimed films (Much Ado About Nothing and Philadelphia) and 2 of them commercial hits (The Pelican Brief and Philadelphia).
Overall great year for him right after Malcolm X in 1992 which established as one of the great actors/leading men of his generation.

In fact Denzel stop doing movies on a 3 film basis after 1998, so it's much harder to see him doing multiple movies in a year, unless he's doing a thriller, and drama / Oscar play around the same time.

Yeah, I don’t see him having 3 movies come out in a calendar year ever again. Most likely it’s like you said 2 in a year..one a Oscar play and the other a popcorn film..especially coming off not having a movie for 2 years. He almost pulled it off again in 1995 with Crimson Tide and Devil in A Blue Dress. One a commercial and critical success and one a critical success. But then Virtuosity…

At least Virtuosity ain't boring.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt also had a very busy 2012. He had leading roles in Looper, Premium Rush, and The Dark Knight Rises as well as a smaller role in Lincoln. I do think that this was the end of his peak, though. Still hoping he bounces back though. He's never been bad but his projects have been not too interesting.

Robin Williams in 2002 wasn't fucking around. He had 3 awesome lead roles in Insomnia, Death to Smoochy and One Hour PhotoRobin Williams was fantastic in each of those films that were released that year. Damn I miss the hell out him (RIP Robin)
