Dowd is a conceivable winner if she could get viewers to watch her film. Mass is one of the first two major screeners out and she is working the circuit like she's Rocky with a punching bag. The actual nomination is the hurdle but we've seen stranger things happen, and the season has barely begun.

Will Smith Kristen Stewart Ciaran Hinds Caitriona Balfe ...boy, do these sound wrong. These are my picks right now too; although I’m scared that Leto has enough to win his second Supporting Oscar. He’s usually the standout in the early reactions, and his role sounds like the kind of scene stealing role that they like to reward.

Best Actor - Will Smith Best Actress - Kristen Stewart Best Supporting Actor - Bradley Cooper Best Supporting Actress - Kirsten Dunst I’m sticking with Smith and Stewart but really have no clue in the supporting categories any more. I think Supporting Actress more likely will be between Balfe and DeBose now but is still wide open with Dunst and Ellis and maybe even Negga in play for a win. Guess I’ll shift to Smit-McPhee for Supporting Actor for now but can easily see a more veteran actor start pulling away with the industry awards.

I don't know, guys... Smit-McPhee is really young to be a male winner. Hinds seems like the answer to me right now.

Yeah, I also think that they'd be more willing to go for the seasoned pro with a touching grandpa role. Even though it'd be among the more boring winning performances for quite a while, imo. But this category remains among the more curious ones. Can't wait to see what the season will show us.

I don't know, guys... Smit-McPhee is really young to be a male winner. Hinds seems like the answer to me right now. He's atypically young for the category, but Timothy Hutton is a precedent. If The Power of the Dog is our Picture winner, they could conceivably carry him along as an acting win (especially if they're in a spread-the-love mood as they have been of late; I don't think it's taking two acting awards). Hinds is definitely in it and on paper fits what they like traditionally, and Belfast is still very much in the thick of it, but if Kodi keeps winning critics' prizes like he has been, Hinds might not get enough momentum going by the time industry prizes get going. But it looks like Hinds is probably the likeliest contender from the Belfast cast to actually win

But it looks like Hinds is probably the likeliest contender from the Belfast cast to actually win I think Cumberbatch & Smit-McPhee have to be considered the current frontrunners in their categories even if TPotD is not the BP winner. Only argument for Will Smith is "eh, he's overdue and a giant movie star that's well-liked in the industry." I think the former is not just debatable but easily debunked, and I'm not sure the latter will be enough. Cumberbatch gives a tour-de-force that will remind a lot of people of one of the most beloved & popular BA-winning performances of the last 20 years (don't think I even have to say which one, lol), and his character has the most complex arc of any of the contenders. He's the favorite. And if anyone beats Smit-McPhee, it will NOT be Hinds.

Cumberbatch Stewart Smit-McPhee (have faith, people!) DeBose As someone who disagrees with 95% of what you write here about any given topic, chalk this one up to the 5%. Those 4 definitely & easily seem like the likeliest winners to me right now.

Smith Stewart Smit-McPhee but....... DeBose
Look, I loved I'mCumbyDammit - and no one is really close to him on merit that I've seen so far in 2021 (haven't seen Dinky of the contenders)........but I'll go with my default POV:
Smith does way more in his movie just as a character on the page ........and has made a lot more people a lot more money in the industry over the years....follow the money, and the formula, not the critics.....it's the Brad Pitt victory lap as far as I can see atm......
