A bit of a mixed blessing for Eternals. It opened rather strong all things considered, proving the Marvel's brand is strong as ever, but WOM seems mixed at best, which means the drop next weekend could be a bit nasty.

Yeah, the opening day is great, but that B Cinemascore is... yikes. Probably going to be the lowest-grossing MCU film this year, which is a massive surprise considering I assumed it would easily blow past $200 million a few weeks back.

Chloe is taking a lot of heat for this one. Will she have a hard time scoring big budget movies after this?

Probably not, but like someone like Ava DuVernay, she'll likely go back to making more smaller more personal movies and projects. It's clear she and Marvel were not the best match in the world.

I still don't understand why she wanted to direct the movie in the first place. She was passionate about the source material and gave a pitch that impressed Marvel. It's obvious that the film didn't pan out the way Marvel and Chloé hoped, but not for a lack of trying.

Eternals barely passed 70m, though Disney may be fudging it. Looks like a rough box office drop awaits it. On the plus side, Dune will probably pass 100m.

Oh yeah, Dune is definitely passing $100 million. If Eternals didn't hurt it much despite taking the vast majority of its IMAX screens, nothing else in the rest of the month will.
