What are some of your favorite songs where people would go...wow, I didn't think you would like...
I'll start things off. I think people would be surprised that I like this one:

I think that people would be surprised that I like anything. This applies to movies, music, clothing, people...

A ton.......but this isn't a song you "like"........it's a very great song though......for some reason people don't think a 196 year old white dude would even know this song but the shit y'all don't know about pacinoyes would fill the Grand Canyon so bring a paper and pen class is in session ......... this song is one of the few of its era that deglamorizes / destroys prison life bravado - it's a terrifying song ......it actually makes most (all?) rap - that plays with crime images - sound dishonest and like utter bullsh it - PromNightCarrie will know this song because she knows what's up ....... I've posted this before for it's lyrics iirc in that thread which are ........like a novel.....very few songs say the genre they are working in is BS .......lyrics are in the vid description

Different people would be surprised by different things and there's a lot of random shit I like fine but I guess nobody would know how many times I've played this one

I've said before that a "perfect" Pop song is almost impossible to find - but when you find one you tend to obsess over it. I really love this song by Molly Nilsson which is on some level just a cold dance track that you may not notice but as a production - but you should because it's really complicated to me anyway. It will make my top songs of the year I'm sure...... Lyrically, this song is about what the music hints at - that she loves things to Death - and they die in front of her - and is getting high from remembering the relationship "like Pompeii" trapped in that moment, so it's historical, sad, joyous, bittersweet.....I reviewed this song before and it's shown up on my top most played 2022 lists but I haven't liked a Pop song like this in a long time - it doesn't fit with anything I usually like ........ This is the best not-Madonna song ever ftw.......and it's just really weird, in how it builds and just floats into space at the end until like the relationship (or a pulse, a heartbeat) it just stops... self-lacerating lines that gently mock her partner and herself, but are never mean or vindicative or altering the songs point - all swirling giddiness and descriptive only. Rarely has "synth pop" made as much sense as this.....you couldn't get this song in another way......with other instruments....it perfectly matches and integrates and seeems otherworldly - instrumentation, lyrics, performance, the detached but later passionate singing .....that morphs into something else at each passage......it also sounds out of time - it doesn't really sound 2022 - it could be made in any era since the 70s....no discernible straightforward chorus either....... I reviewed this album too and it's pretty good but this stands apart from the album even.

A lot of embarrassing wussy-ish Girl Pop stuff: "Standing Still" by Jewel (who is awful in general), Olivia Rodrigo's "Good 4 U" (in general I find her vapid af), Billie Eilish "Bad Guy", Lady Gaga "Bad Romance", songs with "Bad" in the title apparently - more than a few songs by Taylor Swift, same with the Go-Go's, early Madonna ..... Haim "The Wire"......Paula Cole's "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?" ......... I'll just grab my purse and be on my way .....

I never really liked Paul Simon much ...... there's always been a lot better songwriters around than him - usually when he writes he is either too vague or too specific so his songs sound pleasant to me but I rarely re-visit him (he's a lot like Elton John to me).....but I really love this song and this song summed up the world then and still does......it's an amazing composition.......I mean I'm even surprised by how much I like this song
