all voters in the way nominations are decided upon. Why or why not? Discuss.

You’ve been asking great questions lately. I wouldn’t mind if they did this for tech categories. What do actors or writers know about sound editing?

I've been an advocate for this for a long time. At least the techs should be decided by the branches. If it was me, I would let the entire membership vote for Best Picture and acting awards only (yes, even Director and Screenplay should be a branch thing only), but but that's just me.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but there's zero chance of it happening.

If I'm not mistaken, weren't BAFTA's decided via that method at one point?

“What does Sandra Bullock know about sound mixing?”
I think this is the tag line we should use to kick off this campaign

I'd be fully behind this, almost across the board.
Perhaps only Picture, Foreign, Doc, Animated and Shorts should be open to all voters.

Bohemian Rhapsody still would have won best editing guys.

Bohemian Rhapsody still would have won best editing guys. As much as we (justifiably) shit on the editing of this film, I still think it was a hell of an accomplishment to stitch something even remotely watchable given the hellish production. Yes, we like to throw that cafe scene at the wall as one of the worst moments in cinema history, and John Ottman himself even acknowledges it as a bad scene, but given what he had to work with, it's kind of a miracle it even came together at all. So while I'm not thrilled by any means at the finished product, I think he had a taller order to fill than a lot of editors do.

Bohemian Rhapsody still would have won best editing guys. Seriously. We are also assuming that Sandra Bullock who has been in the business for over 30 years doesn't know anything about sound editing.

Bohemian Rhapsody won best editor from the guild members so not sure how things would have turned out differently with The Academy. Worst case scenario, if someone is clueless about editing then they grab their guild winners cheat sheet and vote down the line.

It won the guild for that one too. Not for sound effects.
