With the 20th anniversary approaching: Spike Lee great director (nah........... he's really not) and insightful human being (still ..............he''s really not) ..................... has made some comments in the last day or so .........so what do you think - did the US blow up its own buildings? He may just be playing provocateur though - that's his dumbass schtick usually ..........Looking forward to seeing this documentary anyway - although he doesn't seem to talk to one Republican it appears (but maybe they just aren't mentioned here, maybe they are the "and more" mentioned below ?)- which is odd when at that time Republicans ran the city .......... ...............on the other hand he normally makes far better documentaries than his non-documentary movies. The part in bold is particularly stupid btw since the steel doesn't need to melt to collapse Spike **************************************************************************** When asked why the series devotes a lot of time to questioning how and why the towers fell and features interviews with members of the conspiracy group Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, Lee implied that he still isn’t convinced by the official explanations. “I hope that maybe the legacy of this documentary is that Congress holds a hearing, a congressional hearing about 9/11,” Lee said. “The amount of heat that it takes to make steel melt, that temperature’s not reached. And then the juxtaposition of the way Building 7 fell to the ground — when you put it next to other building collapses that were demolitions, it’s like you’re looking at the same thing.”
Lee added, “My approach is put the information in the movie and let people decide for themselves. I respect the intelligence of the audience.” The four-part docuseries, which weaves together stories, memories and insights of New York’s greatest challenges in the 21st century, premiered on Aug. 22 on HBO and HBO Max. For the series, Lee conducted over 200 interviews with first responders, politicians, journalists and Lee’s own family and friends. Featured interviewees offering first-hand accounts include Jon Stewart, Rosie Perez, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Chuck Schumer, Bill De Blasio, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and more. variety.com/2021/film/news/spike-lee-questions-9-11-nyc-epicenters-1235047399/

9/11 conspiracy theories make even less sense as time goes on and the popular rationales for why it would be an inside job (war for oil, turn America into a police state, etc.) fail to pass muster.
The "jet fuel doesn't melt steel beams" bullshit is also the absolute dumbest claim anyone can espouse about that day. The structural integrity of the building was already compromised by the fact a fucking plane went through it, all it takes then is for the fire to burn hot enough to weaken the floor and the steel structure. Not melt, just weaken. If terrorists had doused the building in tons of jet fuel and lit it on fire, I guess the melting argument could be made, but shit, wait a minute, that's not at all what happened on 9/11.
I feel like most (not all but most) of the people that question 9/11 do so because they are ignorant to what has been going on in the Middle East for decades and how America in its size and hubris was vulnerable to such an attack. Yes, 9/11 was a conspiracy. By Al-Qaeda. And we responded with a vague War on Terror that left out of the big state sponsors of terrorism (Saudi Arabia) because of oil ties. If the American government is involved in any conspiracy, it's in the cover-up, not the attack.

Slate tore Spike a new one on this issue yesterday on this btw.....sounds pretty gross / stupid / Spike Lee-ish in general: Lee devotes 30 minutes near the very end of his series to relitigating arguments that have been debunked a thousand times.
Specifically, he presents about a dozen conspiracy theorists and members of (Richard) Gage’s group, including Gage himself, in a back-and-forth with three credible scientists who investigated the 9/11 attacks in a teach the controversy–style format that presents the truth behind 9/11 as an open debate between two equally valid sides. In terms of conveying facts, this is a bit like presenting COVID-19 vaccine skeptics in a debate alongside Anthony Fauci, or Holocaust deniers alongside the Simon Wiesenthal Center, or a clique of climate change skeptics alongside the authors of the United Nations IPCC report.slate.com/news-and-politics/2021/08/spike-lee-hbo-documentary-richard-gage.html

If they're idiots, let them show their full idiocy in front of people that can blow them away. The "bad guys" have a platform already, and the whole "we shouldn't give them a platform" argument is doesn't work for me. If you fail to truly engage the viewpoint, you lend it legitimacy. That said, this doesn't look like Spike is doing that. Which is fine, it's his movie. He can do what he wants.

Clearly "this" ^ is not what he's doing - he's advocating it by including it for 30 minutes and by us saying "it's his movie" would apply to any movie we watch ......I mean think of the most offensive movie you've ever seen? - "Would you say "I'm not going to offer my viewpoint on this.......... it's his / her movie............and................He's Spike Lee............ I'm just the audience, what I say doesn't matter - they can do what they want"? I'm exaggerating a little there but I think you can see what I mean - at the very least it's tone deaf........at worst quite stupid.......

Thanks Spike! I'm sure this was hard for an "artiste" like yourself to change your movie buddy......yes, sarcasm, but right choice....... Spike Lee is back in the editing room to look at the final episode of NYC Epicenters 9/11➔2021½, his docuseries about the obstacles faced by New York City over the past two decades. It debuted last week on HBO.
The fourth episode, focusing on the 9/11 terror attacks, is timed to premiere on September 11, the 20th anniversary. That episodes raised eyebrows with some after Brooklyn-born Lee’s remarks in a New York Times article last week saying he still “had questions” about the attacks that brought down the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, and that his interviews included conspiracy theorists who are convinced the U.S. government was not truthful about what happened that day.deadline.com/2021/08/spike-lee-editing-nyc-epicenters-sept-11-episode-1234822007/
