I did a double feature of these incredible films over the weekend and I wanted to get your opinion on which film is superior.
I am a big time fan of both of these films so much and imo they both share a lot of similarities thru out . Both of the leads (played brilliantly by Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck aka Joker and Jake Gyllenhaal as Lou Bloom) are total outcast loners that have big time issues and aren't good people at all (which adds to the appeal imo) . Both films featured great character studies that were so out of left field..
There is no wrong answer here but in the end I feel that Joker just gets even better on re watches and Phoenix received a well deserved Oscar win for Best Actor in his portrayal of Arthur Fleck/Joker.
Joker (9/10)
Nightcrawler (8.5/10)

Nightcrawler is the better film and has the superior lead performance.

The psychodrama that puts us inside the head of a murderer justifying his actions. I like Nightcrawler and I think that Gyllenhaal is magnificent, but the way Phillips wraps us in Arthur's viewpoint easily puts it over the top for me.

Gyllenhaal is better with a more defined character than Phoenix, and I think Nightcrawler is a sharper, more introspective script . . . but I think Phillips's direction and the technical aspects of Joker are stronger than Gilroy's.

Joker, but I like Gyllenhaal's performance a bit more.
