Belfast wins?? What a shock, lol. Not to me. I could see this coming and that's why Jamie Dornan entered my Best Actor predictions and why I think he might potentially end up being a bigger threat with the British bloc vote than Cumberbatch.
Belfast seems fully like the kind of film the British bloc would put all their weight behind. Could be a very big threat for BP.

Right now, Dornan is being promoted as the lead actor. He's literally described as the lead actor in this EW article about the TIFF win. ew.com/awards/belfast-tiff-peoples-choice-award-2021-winner/Not that it's a deal breaker and he can't be put in Supporting later, but I'm not feeling it to be as likely now, especially with the momentum the film now has overall. I'm sticking with him in lead till I hear news stating otherwise. And he is a threat in lead, especially with his film being so strong. In fact, it wouldn't make much sense to push Dornan supporting at this juncture when the film is obviously such a strong all-round BP and acting contender. It'd make much more sense to push Ciaran Hinds in Supporting and Dornan in lead to maximise the films acting nominations. Hinds is the kind of veteran that can easily get in Supporting and maybe even become a threat to win.

I actually don't think he's a threat in Lead at all. He could very well win Supporting, but I think there's a good chance he won't even be nominated if they push him Lead. I think Focus would prefer to get a potential 2 wins compared to a potential 4 noms, and will push both Dornan and Balfe Supporting.

I think Dornan and Balfe will end up supporting in the end, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Dench and Hinds also be nominated in supporting especially both men since their category doesn’t seem especially strong right now. There’s Bernal who would be like the third actor nominated from King Richard. Smit-McPhee whose age could work against him. Jenkins but I don’t know what A24 is even doing, and what I’ve read about Nightmare Alley which makes me think that the best chance at acting nominations is with Cooper and the ladies. Maybe an actor or two from House of Gucci, but I thought TLD would be Scott’s best award chance after watching their trailers, and we know how that turned out so far. Probably someone from Don’t Look Up, but I think there’s still room for both Dornan and Hinds to make it. ETA: I totally forgot about Licorice Pizza too, but even with DLU and LP taking up two spots, I think both Belfast actors can still get in.
