Ok, fine it's an excuse for me to post about miss sexy judge again - but it's been a while......hey I didn't post a photo this time Two big rulings this week - a "Left" ruling on the Affordable Care Act (7 to 2 INCLUDING Kavanagh & Barrett) and a "Right" Leaning ruling on Religious Liberty against the City of Philadelphia - 9 to 0: Philadelphia refused to renew its contract with Catholic Social Services for the city's foster care program in 2018 because of the group's refusal to accept gay or lesbian applicants. The agency and several Catholic foster parents sued the city, alleging it targeted their religious beliefs in violation of the First Amendment.A big case upcoming on voting rights - thoughts on the Supreme Court atm and thoughts on some Democrats encouraging the Clinton appointed Stephen Breyer to retire so a younger justice could be appointed. Thoughts?...........Breyer is 82.........

I'm of the opinion that the lifetime appointment for justices is absurd and tilts the balance of power overwhelmingly in favor of the judiciary branch. I think justices should have term limits - I'm good with 12-18 years - to reduce the randomness of the proceedings as well as the ageism of appointments I expect to creep up even more in the near future. So with that in mind, yeah, I'd say Breyer should step down.

As sharp as a justice's mind may be in their waning years, their bodies will ultimately fail them, and as we saw with RBG, the fate of the nation's path should not be dependent on a single octogenarian's health. Breyer should absolutely step down, and term limits for the bench should be set. I'm good with Mike's suggested duration.

Yes, but I think the court's legitimacy will already be at catastrophic levels before it becomes an issue, especially if they gut Roe. It's a numbers game so it doesn't really matter what Breyer does since he's not in the numbers. The reality of the situation is that even if he died in a GOP administration with a GOP congress, those political schisms between the court and the electorate will continue to widen to untenable degrees.

Conservatives will go down with Roe if they do indeed intend to gut it. The recent ruling on the Affordable Care Act has me hopeful that they understand what the vast majority of Americans feel.

i don't think the judges, prosecutors etc.should be judge for a lifetime. I think that should be just for a couple of years 5/10 years, and then retired.- Not only but also, politcs, or even the people, should not choose judges. When someone retires, the elder without charges should succeed pacifically.-

Should be noticed that virtually every other country in the world either has term limits or mandatory retirement ages for their Supreme Court judges (Germany has both, actually). This is an American aberration.

RBG didn’t retire when she could’ve and look what happened. He should retire. But honestly, the replacement justice (if they’re even replaced) is gonna be a liberal POS like Kagan so America still loses. The only decent justice is Sotomayor. She’s everything libs think RBG is but RBG sucked on major issues. She frequently sided with cops and ruled against indigenous claims so fuck ha
