Can't say the man doesn't have a valid point.......... www.businessinsider.com/kim-jon-un-called-k-pop-vicious-cancer-framed-threat-2021-6North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called K-Pop a "vicious cancer" and painted it as a threat to his country. The New York Times reported that Kim made the comments as part of a broader campaign against the catchy music genre that originated in South Korea. He said it harmed the "attire, hairstyles, speeches, behaviors" of North Koreans. The Times reported that state media said it could make North Korea "crumble like a damp wall." The Times reported that North Korea made a new law in December that could give people up to 15 years in a labor camp for consuming South Korean entertainment.

Wow, I'm gonna have to weigh the pros and cons of if I want to move to North Korea now, no K-pop is a huge inducement.
Don't know about it being a crime against North Korea but it's certainly a crime against my ears.

While nobody should go to jail for liking crap, I'm legit amazed by how enormously popular this music is... I usually understand why some pop stuff gets the attention it does but every K-Pop song I've encountered was positively unlistenable. Plastic, robotic garbage.

What the f... is K-Pop?? South Korea decided to rip off every 90s R/B and Pop video but they forgot that what made those acts the jam is the fact that they had rhythm and soul. I have yet to see one KPop group that can dance.

A lot of it is the same Swedish songwriting formula that guys like Max Martin have been doing since the late-'90s.

A lot of it is the same Swedish songwriting formula that guys like Max Martin have been doing since the late-'90s. But that's the thing - and I actually wanted to use his 'Baby One More Time' as an example of a totally product-like song that actually worked - his stuff is what I meant by 'I usually understand why some pop stuff gets the attention it does'. I get why those songs were listened to and are still listened to by plenty of people. The absolute robot-like sound of K-Pop is, based on my admittedly limited experience, actively unpleasant and difficult to listen to. Not to mention the lack of memorable melodies. 90s pop may have been cheesy but it kicks ass compared to the K-scheiße consumed today on a scale which simply amazes me. At the same time, going to jail for liking it is not something I approve of in the slightest

Whether it's the military, marriage or jail - or whatever - we all do our time.......except commitment-phobic lesbians .......they always find a way out "Military service is mandatory for all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28 in South Korea, with exemptions made for athletes, traditional musicians and dancers. The upper age was delayed for BTS in 2020, but now it has been announced that all members of the group will serve."news.sky.com/story/bts-k-pop-band-members-to-do-military-service-in-south-korea-12722787

I thought Reggaeton was insufferable... until I stumbled across K-Pop. You can have it all to yourselves, South Korea.
