Samuel L. Jackson listed his 5 favorite movies that he's starred in while on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Here's the 5:
- The Long Kiss Goodnight - A Time to Kill - Jackie Brown - Red Violin - One Eight Seven
Interestingly enough, all these films were released between 1996 and 1998.

Expected him to name one Spike Lee film at least.

Makes sense, lol, that was probably his most fruitful period as an actor, that wasn't just him starring in like ten junk action flicks in general or something. He was just coming off his Oscar nom for Pulp Fiction, and opportunities and bigger roles opened for him.
I'm actually surprised he didn't mention Eve's Bayou. He was apparently heavily invested in that one, and later worked again with Kasi Lemmons in The Caveman's Valentine.

Yeah the yahoo article that talked about his posited he probably looks fondly at that mid-to-late 90s period because it was a fruitful time for him. Die Hard with A Vengeance, A Time to Kill, The Long Kiss Goodnight, One Eight Seven, Jackie Brown etc. he really had a great run at that time after Pulp Fiction. I'm surprised as you are he didn't mention Eve's Bayou as well. That's one his most underrated and best films imo.

These are some deep cuts. He was probably thinking of the quality of his own part too in addition to the overall movie which is why he didn't name some of the classics where he's had small supporting parts.

Eve's Bayou is great, and if it wasn't for Jackson's "starpower" at the time, it probably would have never gotten made, which is more remarkable on his part.

No Pulp Fiction? No QT at all, no Spike Lee... Interesting. To be fair, he did list Jackie Brown as one of the five.

Great thread ! Ah the box office king and the baddest motherfucker on the planet (it says so on his wallet) . SLJ can literally do no wrong in my book overall (I think the only performance by him was his Russell Simmons' impression in The Kingsman haha) He has been in so many good to great films over the years/ decades even so its going to be hard for me to just list his top 5 but here it goes...
1. Jackie Brown 2. Pulp Fiction 3. Jungle Fever 4. Eye's Bayou 5. Django Unchained
I am on record as saying that Mr Jackson has saved Tarantino's ass on multiple occasions . They both work extremely well together and usually Jackson's performances in Tarantino's films elevates them/

I just watched the video all the way through. I'm actually glad he listed One Eight Seven, which is a movie that doesn't really get enough appreciation. He plays like the hardest of hardass teachers in it and compared to your average inspirational teacher flick of that era, it's fairly daunting. It's also noteworthy as the first time he has sole above the title billing, so I can understand why it speaks so much to him.
