What actors have had two acclaimed performances in the same year in the same category where they could have been nominated for either one if not for the one that they were nominated for?
Examples:
Kate Winslet in 2008 likely would have WON for either performance (The Reader and Rev Road) Leonardo Dicaprio in 2006 would have been nominated for The Departed if not Blood Diamond Alicia Vikander would have probably gotten in for Ex Machina if not for The Danish Girl Anthony Hopkins for both Shadowlands and Remains of the Day James Dean for Rebel Without a Cause if not for Giant
Not the same since they aren't the same category but I imagine that Chadwick would have gotten enough support for Da 5 Bloods if Ma Rainey hadn't come out.
Any other examples? I know I'm missing one big one but can't think of it right now...

Emma Thompson, Sense & Sensibility or Carrington Patricia Clarkson, Pieces of April or The Station Agent (or even Dogville) Jessica Chastain, The Help or Take Shelter (she was better in the latter IMO)

Beyoncé’s banner year in 2006 put her at #6 in both categories.
On top of that she had an 11 week #1 single in the SAME YEAR. Unprecedented and unmatched. What a year.

Christian Bale should have been nominated for Out of The Furnace instead of American Hustle.
Leonardo DiCaprio should have been nominated for The Great Gatsby instead of The Wolf of Wall Street.
Cate Blanchett in Truth instead of Carol Brad Pitt in Ad Astra instead of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Some of the picks in this thread are... perplexing.
I think you could argue that Margot Robbie could’ve been nominated for OUATIH considering the BAFTA nom.
