This was premiered at Cannes this day, 20 years ago. Oh to watch it on big screen for the first time. Damn! Here's to the greatest film I've seen. To my favorite director and actress. To everyone involved in this. The movie that made me fall in love with movies😍

My favourite film too.
Each time I watch it I notice something new. Each time I watch it I consider something I didn't the last time, I theorise something I didn't the last time, I feel something about it I didn't the last time.
It's the gift that keeps on giving.

The best-directed movie ever made.

I've said this before but prior to this movie I wasn't much of a Lynch fan.....I liked The Elephant Man and The Straight Story and the pilot of Twin Peaks only - that's it. Everything else I was meh on..........and I would have told you that Lynch was a self-indulgent weirdo tbh. So to me - I was literally knocked on my ass by this piece of work. What's most amazing to me about Mulholland Drive - a genuine masterpiece imo - is how NOT self-indulgent it is when it so easily could be. Every scene - every second really - serves an artistic purpose and none of it exists to just merely be odd, or puzzling or confuse the audience or to call attention to its creator. Not only is it not repetitive but rather it extends further and deepens as it goes along. It's very rare you find a movie that messes with the audience to the extent this movie does but doesn't structure itself as being smug or superior to the audience. Besides that - it's just one of the great movies about Hollywood along with Sunset Blvd. and The Player but exists in its own space and functions by its own logic as much as is dependent on Hollywood's. Happy Anniversary

Outstanding film all around! Happy 20th Anniversary . That's awesome Drish that this film is the film that made you become a big time movie buff. Very cool to hear! What David Lynch pulled off here was utterly incredible. IMO David Lynch should have won the Best Director Oscar over Opie's direction for A Boring Mind (seriously, I never got the appeal of that bland film ) 10/10

Greatest film of the 21st century so far, tied with Malick's "The New World".

My favorite film as well, and also the one that got me into movies. It made me start looking at cinema more as an art form and a means of expression rather than mere entertainment.

Re-watched this last night, showed it to a couple of housemates. Not only is it still my absolute favourite film of all time, it's also so much fun watching other people watch it - the stunned silence after, followed by a good hour or more of theorising and analysing. It sets your mind and heart on fire - there's truly no other film quite like it. I'm gonna echo others here in that it really is the film that changed how I viewed cinema, where I went from liking film to developing a real passion for it. I'll never forget that first viewing - 16 year old me didn't know what hit me!

Happy 20th to one of the best! One of the best to show others for the first time. Going to see in theater next week with someone who I showed for it too for the first time a few years back and I'm delighted to see his reaction on rewatch.

It's a good film and Naomi Watts certainly gives a fantastic performance in it, but I never was a very big fan of it. I think Lynch made his masterpiece and one of the greatest films of all time four years earlier with Lost Highway. That is the film that I think deserves all the praises that Mulholland Drive is getting. It deals with similar themes of identity, guilt and obsession but in a much more interesting and profound way.

Amazing theater experience. A small theater I frequent did a Lynch marathon over a few weeks back in 2014, and they saved this for last. I already loved it, but my appreciation went up so much watching it on a big screen in a room full of Lynch fans.
Also came across this video recently, and I thought it was nice hearing how much Billy Ray Cyrus didn't take his random cameo for granted. (Also like how he visibly reacts whenever the interviewer butchers Theroux's name. lol)

Saw it recently after a long time, the No Hay Banda scene conveys beautifully what the act of watching a movie is about.

20 years later and this scene at the diner still gets me every fucking time. There's no one quite like David Lynch

I agree with you when you say Lost Highway is more interesting and profound. When I saw it, I was floored. It did a lot of things Mulholland Drive ended up doing a little bit better - and yet no recognition. Don't get me wrong. Mulholland Drive belongs on the list of 21st century film essentials and I can see how it would be a good entry point for new cinephiles. But I don't go along with all this greatest of all time praise. I don't even think it's Lynch's greatest work. I firmly believe Blue Velvet and Lost Highway trounce it. And I'm not ashamed to say that if you've having a special night, Dune does as well.
