Better than Crosby..........Ovechkin? This year: 56 games played : 33 goals; 72 assists; 105 points - his 3rd points crown already - those are approaching Gretzky / Lemieux numbers in a far less high flying era. He won the point crown over his own teammate by 21 points......and the number 3 (Brad Marchand) by .......36 (um) Probably about to win his 2nd Hart Trophy as MVP. He's 24.............and healthy

McDavid after struggling a bit is starting to ramp it up .......leads the league in scoring again - 75 points in 51 games(28 goals, 47 assists)This year doesn't match his all-timer year (in a shortened season) last year where he may have broken records - 105 points in 56 games - almost 2 points per game (33 goals, 72 assists)But.........lately he's been on fire and racking up points, he's likely to win his 4th scoring title already (he's still just now 25) - and maybe another MVP (he has 2)........will be interesting to see where he ends up this year - and in the playoffs - and if he can win a Stanley Cup.........they fired their coach this year. He's gotten his PPG up to 1.5 .......and it's rising. Amazing player ...very pressure in on kind of year for him and his team......

Don't want to give him credit for things he hasn't done yet.......... but he is in a really good spot for a "Gretzky-like" stat - but he has to win a Cup too ....if he does this, below - it's the best team athlete in pro sports maybe too.........and of course still at his peak...... He leads the current scoring race and if he holds on ... Holding on for the scoring grown would make McDavid just the seventh player in NHL history to win it four times, joining Wayne Gretzky (10), Gordie Howe (six), Mario Lemieux (six), Phil Esposito (five), Jaromir Jagr (five) and Stan Mikita (four). But many of those players did the majority of their damage in their mid-to-late 20s. McDavid is only 25. He would become just the third player in NHL history to win four scoring titles before his 26th birthday. The other two are Gretzky and Howe. If McDavid carries his momentum into next season and repeats the feat, he’ll enter living-legend territory. Capturing the Art Ross this season and winning it next season would make him just the second player after Gretzky to do it five times by 26.www.dailyfaceoff.com/connor-mcdavid-remains-on-track-to-be-a-top-five-offensive-playerever/

Can't compare with his amazing shortened season in 2021 - 105 points in 56 games - almost 2 points per game (33 goals, 72 assists) - but rolling right along at a full season career pace. He sat out tonight........so his final numbers: McDavid holds an eight-point lead in the final day of the game, the Art Ross race, but guarantees that he will win his fourth scoring title in his seven-year career. The 25-year-old finishes his best season with goals (44), assists (79) and points (123).eminetracanada.com/connor-mcdavid-leon-draisaitl-resting-oilers-for-finale-vs-canax/504824/

2023 update51 games in 2023 (no missed games) - 41 goals, 52 assists, 93 points, 1.8 points per game - 17 points ahead in the scoring race (this would be his 5th Art Ross) .......soon to obliterate his personal goal scoring high (44 goals) and last years career points high (123) Amazing numbers again ......no one has scored 130 points since 1995/1996 ..........he's on pace for 144 ........

For sure better than Gretzky. Definitely in the top 3 ever, probably #1. And not to brag, but I was vaguely acquainted with him back when he was on the Erie Otters 😏…. although I’m sure he doesn’t remember me lol

I love him and think he is the best since Gretzky / Lemieux .......but there are people in this thread who literally said he's "better" than the 2 GOATs (imo) which is either just contarianism or recentism as of 2023 at least .....he has to win - at least a Cup.....probably 2.....
I didn't include Ovechkin / Crosby in the thread title but you could still make a case without a Cup - in his prime no less - he's under the guy who will be the all-time career goal scorer in a couple years and also under the guy who won saying 2 Cups with 2 different (mostly) rosters before he tops Gretzky / Lemieux

pacinoyes do you think Connor Bedard has the potential to reach McDavid’s level?

pacinoyes do you think Connor Bedard has the potential to reach McDavid’s level? Depends on if he can hang physically - or if he can add bulk - maybe - I think he's smaller than most of the "can't miss" picks recently but he's supposed to be a dazzling player.......will be something to see what the franchise does to surround him with a supporting cast to maximize him. I don't know about "reach" McDavid's level because it's possible he hasn't peaked yet ........but in that general conversation, sure........ Tbh it's just nice to have the "next big thing" be in a hockey city that isn't Pittsburgh or Edmonton

Forgot to post that he won the Hart Trophy a few weeks back - his 3rd in 7 years - which ties him with Lemieux.
Gretzky won that 9 times (Howe 6) but 3 already is insanely impressive - that ties Orr and Ovechkin also.......might be the best athlete in any sport without the big title in his sport .....

Yeah, I'm thinking McDavid's gonna be remembered as the best of all time. Bedard won't come close

20 points in 17 games and a minus 7 so far in 2023-24 ......not great on a struggling team.......trade rumors running wild - ridiculously so for maybe the best player in team sports atm (arguably) .....but this organization traded Gretzky ffs - and Gretzky - who actually is you know, THE best ever (still, well he is) won 4 Cups and got to a final with the Kings who were not great to say the least that year........just sayin'........ So who has anything to trade for him in the first place? Toronto Star - What year is it? Because the Edmonton Oilers have disastrous goaltending, careless defending, recently fired their coach and even Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl can’t fix it. Elsewhere, LeBron James is an MVP candidate and the Detroit Lions lost on American Thanksgiving. Fetch me a calendar, please.

first to do it since the great one. after a slow start he’s only a couple of points away from being the league leader in points. oilers are positioned to make some noise in the playoffs too.

He's been on a tear tbh.......one of the worlds great athletes........I know he doesn't "have" to win a Cup this year.........but it feels like he does for some reason .......... He's also amazing to watch in person.........you can literally see how explosive - and hockey smart he is with how he navigates the ice......
