"He rode into town with his cock in hand and what he did with it was illegal in 49 states."
Man gave us the greatest tagline in cinema history. Go easy, Monte.

Two-Lane Blacktop is one of the best, most original, most '70s films I've ever seen. Rest easy, legend.

RIP. There aren't many filmmakers left still going who made features back in the '50s. He's one of the many talents who cut their teeth under Corman and what's interesting is the way he remained in the genres or types of movies Corman made but loosened the trope-straps and made them more in a reflective, unusual way. I especially like his Westerns... The Shooting, and the slightly underrated China 9 Liberty 37 (one of the last spaghetti Westerns, w/ Peckinpah in the cast) where Warren Oates tells Fabio Testi, who's just spared his life, "There are no soft-hearted gunslingers." As he didn't understand him, the industry didn't seem to understand Hellman who had a lot more to say that we never got to see. Some trivia, big movies he touched..... He shot a lot of second-unit footage for RoboCop. He raised all the money for Buffalo 66 and was even gonna direct at one point until Gallo took over. He of course exec produced Reservoir Dogs... He helped get the movie going. Peckinpah, the great Giuseppe Rotunno, Sergio, and Monte
