Yeah, these attempts to create a phony backlash against a frontrunner are always cringeworthy but this one seems especially calculated and created out of thin air. To report about some controversy is one thing (and even that's often stupid) but to actively generate it when it's simply non-existent is a whole other level of awful.

No matter what you think about the backlashes against LLL, 3BOEM and Green Book (I’m 100% pro-LLL and thought the cultural appropriation angle was horseshit, was sort of on the terms with the criticism against Billboards despite enjoying the movie just fine, and I hate Green Book), at least those were organic, genuine talking points. This whole “Nomadland is Amazon propaganda” thing is just so calculated and something nobody actually agrees on, not even on Twitter. To make an article of it on a major outlet is just bad-faith writing.

It won't hurt it, though. Still winning.

I wonder how much a "journalist" is paid to write garbage like this. If it's good enough, I want in.

didn't it just depict Amazon as just another gig for Fern? It's not a positive or negative terminatordepiction, it's just neutral (*ahem ). What a weird fake controversy.

This absolutely feels like someone paid for this to help another movie at the Oscars. A handful of tweets from randos is not a "controversy".
And although they were a bit more organic I'm sure that was the case with all the think pieces about LLL and Green Book being "problematic" too.
