This is kind of silly - the big ego d*ckhead dilettante of the theater and movies isn't a nice guy? I am shocked! This is a long article but worth a read......because some of it is funny - EVERYTHING you think about Hollywood is true! If you want safe spaces on MAR well some of this will raise your eyebrows ....... he's sort of the Kevin Spacey in Swimming With Sharks character. Producer of The Tragedy of Macbeth and The Woman In The Window this year but I don't think this will affect that (or anything else he does probably). May be the tip of the iceberg......... or (more likely?) the whole iceberg......I'm sure he's blowing a gasket over this though........ Ryan Nelson, who was Rudin's executive assistant in 2018-19, says he experienced and witnessed so much mistreatment, including the producer throwing a stapler at a theater assistant and calling him a "retard," that he left the industry altogether.
"Every day was exhausting and horrific," he says. "Not even the way he abused me, but watching the way he abused the people around me who started to become my very close friends. You're spending 14 hours a day with the same people, enduring the same abuse. It became this collective bond with these people."

Ok, the hot potato bit made me laugh.... But srsly, people in and out of the industry already know he's an outbursting boss with anger issues.... The article is kinda bad but also makes it seem like he's just a really mean boss who throws things and needs mental help. There could be more coming tho...
Megan Ellison tweeted:
“This piece barely scratches the surface of Scott Rudin’s abusive, racist, and sexist behavior. Similar to Harvey, too many are afraid to speak out. I support and applaud those who did. There’s good reason to be afraid because he’s vindictive and has no qualms about lying.”

Surprisingly, given what a monster he is,there's no hint of sexual impropriety with Rudin.I suspect that is what will save his abusive ass.

Wasn't he one last week? This never makes sense to me. Why is it when all that other stuff went down, he was able to escape until now? Why don't people speak up sooner to save others from mistreatment? I know what it's like to have to deal with a toxic manager. It's exhausting on a daily. It is so sad that co-workers will sit back and allow one person to endure the stress. Then praise them during the downfall.

The media does itself a disservice when it uses these things as an opportunity to talk about "microaggressions" or whatever. I was rolling my eyes but then it said he smashed a computer monitor on an employee and he had to go the hospital. That's just regular aggression.

Kinda stunned at this - that this prick would give in at all - ah well that payola for awards does get expensive I guess......... we'll see if this capsizes his 'Zel.......... Lear on Broadway - probably not but maybe it's a bit further away for a while ...........this likely kills his planned Dustin Hoffman...... Our Town production where Dusty would go for the Triple Crown......that was already on shaky ground...... variety.com/2021/theater/news/scott-rudin-step-back-broadway-workplace-abuse-allegations-1234953942/ Producer Scott Rudin has announced that he will “step back” from Broadway following allegations of abusive workplace behavior, Variety has confirmed. The move marks an extraordinary fall from power for one of the theater and film business’s most acclaimed and influential figures.

Nothing is changing. All his Broadway productions are going forward, and someone with his ego and love of producing won't jettison plans for future productions. He's just not going to be the public face of the operation (for now). He'll still be pulling the strings in a dark room. It's just another version of Jeff Bezos stepping down as Amazon CEO or whatever. We all know he still runs that shit. It feels pretty obvious that Rudin will survive this. It's awful PR, but being a bullying asshole isn't enough to finish someone as powerful as him in the industry (half the power players in the industry would see their careers finished today if it was). His saving grace is there has been no hint of sexual misconduct....if there was, he'd probably be done. This is not Weinstein. Or anything close to it. As it is, he's doing his mea culpas and apologies for being a toxic asshole, and taking a step back from "active" participation in his productions. Within 6 months to a year, he'll announce that he's been in therapy to learn to control his anger and become a better person for it. Cue the ass-kissing profiles and articles fawning over Scott Rudin being a happier and "changed man" that people now love being around, as he once again becomes the public face of his company. I could write this bullshit script myself

Rudin's temper has been known for decades and while this hit-piece hurts more now than it would five years ago, all he really has to do is just step into the shadows but he's still going to be the one calling the shots.

I wouldn't be so cavalier because this story isn't done either stephen ........ for the projects we know he called the shots on they're hurt - this hurts Tragedy of Macbeth - and The Woman in The Window but less that since I assume it isn't baity........if not for the stars/director in some way on a larger scale. Also btw now, this has been announced ( see below) and trust me and when he refuses this upping the ante and calling him on his stunt, I'd be willing to bet stuff will come out about sexual impropriety too at some point.....and if that happens............when it happens...... Actors’ Equity Association is calling on producer Scott Rudin, who “stepped back” from his Broadway productions today in response to allegations of workplace abuse, to release employees from nondisclosure agreements deadline.com/2021/04/actors-equity-scott-rudin-nondisclosure-agreements-1234737752/

Like wise old sage pacinoyes (um) said the other day "this story isn't done" .......... Rudin actually exacerbated this story by his "stepping back" gibberish which is why that was such a shock that happened. Karen Olivo leaving Moulin Rouge was a key thing because it probably specifically pushed Hugh Jackman to lean on him which lead to that ill advised (and quite foolish) statement.......which accomplished what exactly?: Actors Equity calling him out on NDA's which he (predictably) ignored and which is a big deal imo......and now this and a growing chorus of disapproval.......just watch Megan Ellison come back around next.

Yeah, it's tragic that this guy's brother died, but blaming his suicide 12 years after he worked for Rudin for 8 months because he was a shitty boss in is such a pointless stretch, and also pretty distasteful. Rudin is clearly a complete dick, but this actually makes me feel sorry for the prick when someone is using this man's death against him. I doubt I'll be the only person who feels this way either. This "cancel" attempt is way too try hard. Can't see it working. You cannot pin the death of this guy's brother directly on Rudin, no matter how emotive your video message is or how shitty Rudin's behavior has been. His brother clearly had a lot of internal issues that made his eventual outcome more likely than not. This video is overplaying it's hand. Most people with common sense will not hold Rudin responsible for this man's demise. Maybe some SJW's on Twitter will screech about it, but it's not a smoking gun for the industry to excommunicate Rudin.

It may not be a smoking gun nor is there an easy, direct connection between Rudin and Kevin's suicide, but I also wouldn't be dismissive of the connection being made. If Kevin started off well-adjusted and developed anxiety and PTSD in the immediate aftermath of being Rudin's assistant and that followed him through the rest of his life, that's a very severe thing that shouldn't be taken lightly. And I would not be comfortable assuming to know more about how likely Kevin's suicide was with or without Rudin than his actual twin brother.

It's cute seeing people minimize the accusations against Rudin to his being an "asshole" or a "dick". The allegations are more serious than that:
Now, as always and like any reasonable person should, I will reserve my judgement until I see more evidence (just like I did with the Driver/Franco thing which certain people jumped the gun on), but physically assaulting someone that works for you is beyond being just a bully or an asshole. It's being a criminal. And producing Denzel Washington movies and plays shouldn't absolve you of being a criminal.

(just like I did with the Driver/Franco thing which certain people jumped the gun on) To be fair, I will never look at Adam Driver again and not think that he will grab a chair in the room and threaten someone with it in a movie.

By "stepping back," does he mean that he can just have a bit more room to fling this chair?

It's cute how you people can see "nothing" happening to Rudin and people can see "a lot more to come" since 2021 is not 2017- and I've said both of those things myself - and both of those things are equally cynical in a way even though those are polar opposite viewpoints. I said this before - except for The Woman in the Window which isn't baity all his work is going to have a taint on it for a bit - clearly BP consideration for Tragedy of Macbeth or at least casting a lot of bad publicity over that project is a strong possibility. Can it transcend that ......sure........but not definitely .......Shakespeare doesn't get a lot of BP nods anyway usually - this doesn't help. Also The Humans but which one would assume is closer to the latter film than the former.... Said this before, Rudin is making this much worse with these BS statements, everyone hates him, there are NDA's ominously out there waiting to be broken, and he's in his 60s......this story isn't over ....

That's what he'll attempt to do unless there is something dropped that is so horrible that even he wouldn't be able to survive it. Right now, I think it boils down to how well he's liked in the industry. This is the time for the "Finish him moment" where if he has made any enemies, he will be taken down. He better hope nobody of importance starts the dominion chain.

Yikes.... 5 movies. Isn't he the main money man? They took off his name but he still gets paid for it. It will be interesting to see how they move forward with new projects.
