www.thewrap.com/new-oscars-rules-knock-multi-part-documentaries-like-oj-made-america/A lot of changes were made. The academy will now ignore multi-part documentaries like O.J. Also the score rules have changed, so that scores done by at least three people can get nominated, so now say more Zimmer and remote control scores might be nominated as a result. The change that probably irks me the most though, is change to the animation branch / animated category. "But Variety reports that now Best Animated Feature will be treated like Best Picture in that anyone can vote for any nominee. Per the Academy". So basically the academy was tired of nominated non-mainstream animated films, and they decided to change things up. They'll continue to treat animation as a low form of entertainment, basically. Great!

Maybe reaction to some pressure because of the snub of Your Name and Lego movie.

Maybe reaction to some pressure because of the snub of Your Name and Lego movie. This likely ensures that more mainstream animated films, instead of quirky indies animated films, will have a better chance at getting nominated, which is why I take issue with it, since the best animated films is usually the category I'm anticipating the most every year.

Rest in peace best animated feature. Really like the changes to documentary, because it was pretty stupid what just happened, but they've absolutely ruined animated. All those wonderful movies nobody would ever have heard of or seen without those nominations... It was one of the few moments of true inspiration the nominees would offer up every year. Screw these guys.

It is not a given that a big amount of regular voter will volunteer to participate to the category most year thought even thought they will all receive an invitation to do so, while the people from the previous committee will all do.

Maybe, but at the same time anyone can vote, so it's not limited anymore, which is a big worry. Plus 2D look to be excluded as well.

Well, expect every single Disney/Pixar movie to get nominated now. Maybe even some Dreamworks stuff. Oscar nominee The Boss Baby, anyone?

I usually anticipate it for the actual nominees and not the winners. The academy in the past is usually good at nominating more obscure Foreign art-house animated films, that I usually look forward, like My Life As A Zucchini. I'm a huge animation fan after all. Plus a lot of people would have never seen those films if they didn't get nominated.

The rules concerning Best Original Score and Best Picture are also stupid. If a movie has three composers and wins Original Score, only one statuette will be given for the team. Stupid. And a similar thing with Producers where if an 'established' producing team gets their movie nominated, only one producer from that team will be nominated. I guess they don't want to spend money on all those statuettes.
