Immaculate (2024) - I watched this for two reasons and neither of which were the plot (if you've seen one movie against the church establishment with a pregnant woman... I dunno like the dozen or so I can think of off the top of my head... of The First Omen from like the month before this was released...) nor the acting. I knew damn well what I was getting into and hell the audience does too if you listen to the whopping second conversation Sweeney has with a person. Lame and bad is no way to get through a movie, son.
A Quiet Place Day One (2024) - Beyond the first 10ish minutes of the second, which were excellent, I merely thought the franchise thusfar was decent. Granted I haven't seen the first since it came out on streaming, but this latest version felt very much like a rehash of that... but minus those pesky kids, which is nice. Lupita was good, but again, this would be like watching The Force Awakens after watching A New Hope. A new cast, but basically the same fucking thing. Also why the hell did they higher Honsou if he's only going to be in it for like 3 lines and 2 minutes?

Glengarry Glen Ross Watched this for the first time because of the Broadway announcement and GODDAMN, wish I had seen it sooner. Cast ranking? Gotta go Lemmon, Pacino, Pryce for my top three... after that it's probably a crapshoot until I hit last place with Harris.

I usually love Ed Harris, but I just didn't care for him in this. For me he absolutely is top three of the cast, give or take where I put Baldwin. But there's no weak link. Moss is the least inherently interesting character in the production, sure, but Harris nails that for me and his outbursts are just prime. No one goes off like Ed.

Me saying he's my least favorite in this would be best in show in a lot of other productions.

The Instigators (2024) - Cool heist movie. Love the chemistry between Damon and Affleck. 8/10.

Julia (1977)
Zinnemann does it again. Not really an auteur but one of those guys who just had the secret sauce and made good movie after good movie, and that even crossed over to the post studio era. Of course a stacked cast and works surprisingly well as a thriller in the middle act. Looks great too.
8/10

2005 Scavenger Hunt #1
Midnight My Love (Director: Kongdej Jaturanrasmee) What starts off as a simple - too simple - precursor to Perfect Days becomes a ridiculously over-the-top series of stupidity in this eye-roller of a romantic drama. The basic concept of a taxi driver who listens to the oldies and soap operas on his favorite AM radio station - this is pretty much all of the character development he gets, so savor it - meets a struggling prostitute and becomes her favored driver. Murders, scams, and organ harvesting(!) all wind up happening later in the movie, slathered with syrupy music on top in a mad attempt to make you take this crap seriously.

Strange Darling - One of the best horror films of the year. Beautifully lensed by Giovanni Ribisi and featuring a tremendous star-making turn from Willa Fitzgerald, it sets itself up initially as a grindhouse throwback before taking on a much more interesting and modern turn. Low-key some of the best production design of the year as well.

He's great as well! He gets to play much more interesting layers than the stock character initially set up and he commits wholeheartedly to it. Sorry, I did the write-up real quick before heading to bed.

Cuckoo (2024) - Very unpopular opinion I'm sure (because everyone on all timelines have their mouths agape for this man) but Dan Stevens cheapens every project I've seen him in. There's this clown/theatre kid energy given off whenever he's required to put on an accent and even without one he's just...greasy. That aside, film itself starts off remarkably captivating then loses steam toward its convoluted third act... 6.5/10

Fuck whatever the hell Claptrap was especially. 2/10 I've spent so much time and money into those games and I will defend them to the death (INCLUDING 3... but fuck Wonderlands, that was genuinely awful on all levels)... but I think I will wait the 3 weeks it will be before it's streaming to permanently have my eyes rolled back into their sockets.
