One of the most chameleonic actors of all time, whose immersion into his characters is so total and often so unrecognizable that I guarantee you it's a reason why he went so long without proper due from awards bodies. To think the same man played Sid Vicious, Lee Harvey Oswald, Dracula, Beethoven, Norman Stansfield, Mason Verger, Jim Gordon, George Smiley and Winston Churchill boggles the mind.
I have to say, though, as brilliant as he is when he goes balls-to-the-wall, I much prefer my Oldman when he's low-key and minimalistic, as showcased in his exemplary (and career-best) work in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I hope he gets the chance to revisit that character again.

The only actor of DDL's UK generation that can stand in his same general sphere of talent (maybe Fiennes too though tbh) - he had a great year this year because I thought he was pretty great in Mank and almost no else did on here - so THAT'S how you know you've really made it I guess. Favorite Oldman scene (and performance too) ..............ever:

Him, Day-Lewis, and Rylance are on a league of their own.
Then there's the rest of the british actors.

a good time to shout-out his remarkable performance in The Contender where he played a sleazy House Republican. Shouldda been nominated for it. Happy birthday Mr. Oldman!
