So 12 of the 20 acting nominees this year have never been nominated for an acting Oscar before. For comparison, last year only five of the acting nominees were first-timers.
Riz Ahmed
Maria Bakalova
Chadwick Boseman
Sacha Baron Cohen (previously nominated for screenplay but not acting)
Andra Day
Vanessa Kirby
Leslie Odom Jr.
Paul Raci
Amanda Seyfried
Lakeith Stanfield
Steven Yeun
Youn Yuh-jung
Any nominee you’re most happy about? I’m gonna say Steven Yeun, partially since I think he’s wonderful in Minari and he’s my Best Supporting Actor win for Burning. And I do have sentimental feelings for Yeun because he was early Asian-American representation I saw on TV as a teenager when I watched The Walking Dead. But honestly, I’m pretty happy that all of these people can now be called Academy Award Nominees.

Chadwick, not just because of his passing, but also that was an incredible performance, and a well-deserved way to preserve his legacy.

Raci. I'd be happier about Stanfield if it wasn't the worst kind of category fraud (seriously, I can't wrap my head around anyone could think he's supporting).
You also left off Bakalova.

Yeah the Stanfield one is strange. It’s kind of a pleasant surprise but also bizarre to see Kaluuya and Stanfield both labeled supporting actor and definitely major category fraud. Thanks for mentioning Bakalova! So many first-time nominees this year

Raci, because it looked like he wasn't getting in, and it's not the type the Academy usually votes for.

Boseman, who was transcendent in Ma Rainey's / Bakalova, who went head-to-head with SBC without missing a beat on some of his wildest stunts / Raci, who was the quiet, steady heart and soul of that movie.
Most of these are fantastic nods though. I'm missing a couple but of the ones I've seen, Seyfried is the only one I didn't like.

Probably Bakalova just because at another forum someone kept referring to her in a derogatory way just because a nomination for her would been unprecedented. Then Youn because I didn’t have any faith in the Academy to nominate her especially since unlike Yeun she wasn’t very known here at all. So happy that Rack got in. Didn’t think he would after missing other televised precursors, and I was seriously worried that Leto was going to her in instead. Finally Seyfried just because I’m petty lol. Not here but somewhere else now someone is going to have to eat crow after being against Seyfried all season, and being really confident that she was going to miss. Plus I don’t know if tyjagi still checks in here, but he called her early on to win, but gave up on her. So at least for his sake, I’m glad she made it.

Obviously their forum is running really slowly right now, but I did manage to get into see that they don’t seem to be happy about Seyfried getting in either. It reminds me of how much they hate Robbie, and even though I’m not a big Robbie fan it makes me want her to do well just out of spite sometimes lol.

I'm so happy for most of them. Yeun, Stanfield and Ahmed are three actors that I saw at their beginning, and none of them seemed like close to Oscar nominees until this year. I always saw the potential, but it always felt like a pipe dream.
For Yeun and Ahmed - and Youn as well, for that matter -, it's so great to see the glass ceilling for asian actors finally be broken.
I'm also so, so glad for Seyfried. I grew up watching her in so-so movies and still always had a soft spot for her, and now it's paying off. I hope she starts being taken seriously, Fincher gambled high on her and she delivered the goods.
For the others - Bakalova, Kirby, Raci, Boseman -, I'm also happy and I was rooting for them, but I had less of a sentimental rooting.

Youn Yuh-jung simply because she was the best!
And despite my stubborn refusal to predict her even though the signs were so damn obvious, and even though I don't feel the performance itself deserves this kind of recognition (even if it's decent), I can't help but feel happy for Bakalova because how can you not feel happy about a total newcomer from Bulgaria getting in for a comedic performance which so obviously was done without any awards in mind.

Well, pretty much all I cared for was Hopkins getting a nod. Which was a sure thing, though, plus not a first time nominee.
So apart from that, I'm happy both Oldman (not a first timer) and Amanda got in.
Kirby is another good reason for me to follow this year's awards.

In terms of individual performance, Paul Raci. Thought he was too good and understated for the Academy to appreciate, glad to be wrong.
In terms of career, Lakeith Stanfield. I’m thrilled he was nominated for that performance, even if it’s maybe the weirdest category fraud ever.

Happy for all of them, I'd say Less so for Chadwick, but I think it's nice that he has this sort of farewell that adds some major respect from his peers to go along with the audience adoration he gained years ago. Would be sort of sad had he been remembered only for his Marvel efforts considering none of his other stuff reached the popularity it deserved. I'd say I'm most happy for Bakalova for getting in for a performance/film you'd normally never see have much of a chance (though the category bullshitting gets on my nerves), Raci who should get a whole new level of career off the back of this, and Yeun because he suffered through way too many years on The Walking Dead, and GOD DAMN IT, YOU DESERVE THIS, GLENN! It's also the only one of these performances that I'd say isn't really remotely 'showy' in any way.
