2019: 1917 gets surprise screenplay nomination while Parasite has no acting nods 2018: Roma gets two acting nominations and Farrelly misses director 2015: Tom Hardy gets mildly surprising supporting actor nod, Spotlight gets what is expected of it
Most other years the main best picture contenders get what is expected of them but all three of these years my predictions swayed because of these nominations (in 2017 though this did work out for me with Three Billboards missing director) so this year if say either Strathairn or another member of the Chicago Seven cast gets in I'm going to try to not let it sway me too much. Just something to consider on Oscar nomination morning.

Please, don't remind me. I have still trauma about it Still can't believe 1917 managed to get a nomination for that mediocre, basic screenplay over a film like The Farewell.

That is specially true once you take into account preferential voting.

Trying to listen to my own advice here but it is not going well... Like this has to be big for Nomadland and bad for Chicago 7, right????? I know the directors branch just usually does whatever they want but still...
