Oscar night? Spotlight (the movie that ended up with Best Picture), The Revenant? Mad Max? Something else? I remember following it that year, but not as close as some of the others, so it would be fun to see what people think.
Thanks in advance for any comments and opinions!

I think it was The Revenant because I thought BAFTA came after PGA that year, but it was mostly still up in the air as far as a true favorite like La La Land or even Green Book or Roma. On the old boards, I believe that was the first year where there were still more than two viable options with many people backing the different options unlike most years where things usually come down to posters mostly backing one of two choices with a few votes for a dark horse third option.
It really felt like The Big Short, Fury Road, The Revenant, and Spotlight had an equal chance of winning because they all had pros, but also big cons as well.

I think many of us guessed it would be The Revenant as it had DGA, BAFTA and Golden Globes. I knew the main alternative would be Spotlight, as The Big Short lost too much momentum after SAG, and Mad Max never really had a chance to win Best Director, which it needed to in order to win Best Picture.

It was a split-race with four main factions, but it was looking like the night was favoring The Revenant with BAFTA having gone for it. Spotlight still had some hold-outs, though.

It was definitely between The Revenant, Spotlight, and The Big Short.
The Big Short was such a weird PGA winner, it caught everybody off guard.

It was a split race. I was predicting Spotlight, but many were predicting The Revenant and The Big Short.

The Revenant winning BAFTA, the Globe, and being the Director frontrunner all made it the favorite with Spotlight as the alternative given its SAG Ensemble win and the preferential ballot seeming to help it as it was the most universally well-liked film. The Big Short had early frontrunner status with its PGA win (itself a preferential ballot) but its loss at SAG was seen as hurting its chances given the actors branch is easily the largest branch of the Academy. Fury Road was seen as an unlikely but possible Director alternative given its bevy of assumed tech wins (which all panned out) but only a scant few were seeing it as having a real chance at Picture.

My prediction was
1) The Revenant 2) The Big Short 3) Spotlight
But it was definitely the closest BP race in recent memory, and the only one I can think of with more than 2 legitimate contenders.

I remember it being considered being a three horse race between The Revenant, Spotlight and The Big Short with The Revenant having a slight edge.

The Revenant was favored to win, per GoldDerby, but Spotlight was up there as well. Here is how it looked:
The Revenant - DGA, Globe and BAFTA Spotlight - SAG, WGA, Critics Choice The Big Short - PGA, WGA The Maritian - Globe

I remember thinking it was going to be The Revenant but then I saw that pretty shameless billboard the Spotlight put up and realized Spotlight was going to win. I mean it worked for 12 Years a Slave...
