Rosemary's Baby and The Purple Rose of Cairo would be my personal choices for best performance by a leading actress in their respective years, and I love her in all of her collaborations with Woody Allen. She is a terrific voice actor as well - she registers quite powerfully in The Last Unicorn. I still need to see her performance as Peter Pan in the '70s television special Pan, which wendy recommended to me years ago. As an aside, I've mentioned this elsewhere on the forum, but she was Liliana Cavani's first choice for Charlotte Rampling's role in The Night Porter. Could you imagine her in that part? (It's so hard for me to see an American actress there due to the subject matter.)

Oh honey, whatever happened to Wendy? I miss her so much! Aside from Rosemary, I thought what Farrow was trying to do in Broadway Danny Rose was interesting...

Rosemary's Baby, which is one of my all time favorite performances. I haven't seen most of her Allen's (apart from Purple Rose) but to start watching them now, just feels icky?

I can understand that, but the films are just so good - I would at least try to set those feelings aside for Hannah and Her Sisters and Crimes and Misdemeanors. Broadway Danny Rose is Farrow's best performance in an Allen film (after The Purple Rose of Cairo), but the film isn't the masterpiece those other three are.

@tyler Have you seen John + Mary(1969)? She was also splendid in that one. Quite an underrated gem of a film.

HELENA MARIA - I love Alice! I think it's one of Allen's most underrated films. And yes, I've seen John and Mary - I remember really loving Farrow's performance in it, but I think I need to see it again.

Mattsby pacinoyes - What are your choices? Or has the whole Woody Allen debacle soured you on her entirely?

Well, I mean if the wackadoodle Denzel fans on MAR and their frequent debacles haven't soured me on assessing HIS work, Mia will be fine There is no such thing as souring on someone's work for me unless it's FROM the work itself- like I always say I have no problem separating work from "real life" - always. I think like I've mentioned a bit that Mia's 70s crushed her as an actress - and Woody saved her - and wrote parts where he maximized her. In the 70s - she worked with Altman, Reed and Chabrol and couldn't get any traction from any of those AND had Gatsby but she seems in every role in the 70s to stagnate. She was just hard to cast for some reason it seems. So I think her 3 nods in 1 year - a record? - for BAFTA ( Rosemary, John and Mary and Secret Ceremony) were peaks and her playing parts unencumbered by "career". For Woody - she's good or better in EVERYTHING - and underrated in a couple of those even. I think she's inspired in Broadway Danny Rose actually. So "best" is Rosemary's Baby but there's lots of good stuff in her career. Most underrated btw is " See No Evil" from the early 70s which was flat out ignored and passed over and she's quite good there - started her 70s on an unfair note too.

I do want to see Hannah and Her Sisters and Broadway Danny Rose (as well as Radio Days and Alice) but I saw Crimes and Misdemeanors a few years ago and I've completely forgotten that Farrow was in that...

Mattsby pacinoyes - What are your choices? Or has the whole Woody Allen debacle soured you on her entirely? Not soured on her work..., Rosemary’s baby her best! followed by all the Woodys.... Cairo, Broadway Danny Rose, Husbands N Wives, the underrated Alice. etc
