David Lynch is pretty easily my favorite director, but I don't think I'll ever be able to bring myself to find Dune anything more than a jumbled, ridiculous mess.
Definitely wouldn't say I despise Hard Eight, but it's the only thing PTA's done I'm not crazy about.

Didn't care too much for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (directed by David Fincher). While I didn't totally despise it , I felt it was too much of a rip off of Forrest Gump. also The Neon Demon . I love all Refn's films that I've seen except for that one. Just way too out there even for a guy like me lol. Out of interest, have you seen Only God Forgives?

I really connected with OGF (I know a lot of folks despise it though) but The Neon Demon was just too fucked up for me haha.

Hm... let's say those:
Brian DePalma - Redacted Guy Maddin - The Little White Cloud That Cried David Lynch - Dune
All of them are more than just creative mishaps. They're frankly somewhat insulting.

I hated it personally, but I guess it's good to see not everyone did.

Not despise, but find below-average: Francis Ford Coppola- Life Without Zoë Michael Mann- The Keep Brian De Palma- The Fury The Keep really stands out in Mann's filmography.

I really like Moonrise. Yeah, everyone I know loves it lol. It was just too cutesy for me. Like eating cotton candy for dinner or something. I know just what you mean.

Wes Anderson was my favorite filmmaker for a long while (Rushmore is my favorite movie ever, and The Royal Tenenbaums is third) but my lord, I hated Moonrise Kingdom so much it turned me off of his films entirely for awhile. I avoided The Grand Budapest Hotel for months because I figured it'd just be Moonrise Kingdom redux. I ended up loving that one and figured maybe I'd been too harsh on MK. Revisted it and hated it even more the second time. I have to confess I cannot even remember watching Moonrise Kingdom. However, I rated it 6/10 on IMDB which isn't great. I also, generally, love Wes Anderson. But that one... I literally cannot even recall watching it... but clearly I felt strongly enough to rate it... PS I adore The Grand Budapest Hotel (and many other Wes Anderson films.)

Off the top of my head it's probably a tossup between Gus Van Sant's Psycho and Robert Altman's Dr. T & the Women. I don't dislike Midnight in Paris, but I honestly despise how frequently I hear people refer to it as Woody Allen's best film.

I've been open in the past about my severe dislike for Magnolia. I also hate Fight Club (I admire David Fincher), Hudsucker Proxy (my beloved Coens), and I was bored to tears by Masculin Feminin (Godard). I haven't seen Dune. Whenever I see it come on cable, I just can not bring myself to be interested in it. Judging by the comments, that might be a good decision.

His Girl Friday - Absolutely unbearable. Represents everything you wanna burn about Old Hollywood. Those annoying antics, that uppity sh-t confused as comedy. Rosalind Russell was good, but this movie has nothing to offer in terms of originality. That "age of newspapers" feels like such a boring age as portrayed in this movie - where people do nothing except crack screwy lines. That being said, I thought Bringing Up Baby - essentially guilty of the same things I criticize HGF for - was rather good. I guess the fact that it had a leopard and a slightly less conventional and more original story made it better. Still nothing touches Rio Bravo for me. Germany, Year Zero - Absolutely flat, kills my heartbeat. Like, you won't have a heartbeat after watching this totally dated and nothing special movie, though I think the last 15 minutes does upgrade it slightly from a 5/10 to a 6/10. I usually like Rossellini's simple style. Any further recommendations beyond Europa '51 and Voyage to Italy? That's all I can think of for now. Stromboli is fantastic. Germany Year Zero is ok.

Il generale Della Rovere is one of my favorite Rossellini. I assume you already saw Roma città aperta.

'Despise' is a strong word, but I think that I'm Not There. is by far Todd Haynes' weakest effort.

The Silence - Ingmar Bergman I don't despite it, but it's definitely one of the few Bergman films I've disliked out of the ones I've seen. I love the rest of the faith trilogy... In response to the thread question: Fincher - The Game Malick - Song to Song
