This. And I'm not a really huge fan of most of DOR's body of work either, but he is far more accomplished than McKay. Three Kings alone is way beyond anything McKay has ever done.

In general, DOR. But The Big Short is better than anything DOR will ever do.

I have a massive issue with McKay's sensibility as a writer/director, where I feel like he's aggressive towards his audience and treats them as little more than puppies that piddled on the floor. The Big Short and Vice are hampered by the superiority complex of their director. Plus he made Anchorman 2, which is abominable.
Still, I'd rather watch his movie than David O. Russell, whose art feels counterfeit to me. Three Kings and The Fighter are good movies but they feel like they are good in spite of O. Russell.

I know I’ll still see it, but I’m not looking forward to that with how Don’t Look Up might do that. I didn’t read the screenplay that was floating around, but I don’t think it does that. However, I won’t be surprised if McKay can’t help himself and still does that. I didn’t mind so much with The Big Short, but I loathed it with Vice. With DOR, I don’t get that with The Three Kings, but I definitely get that starting with The Fighter which is why I’m not really looking forward to his next film either except for the actors same as Don’t Look Up.

Both not the best out there, but still Three Kings and Silver Linings Playbook are better than anything McKay has ever done until now. I still liked The Big Short, absolutely not the case for Vice.
That all said i'm more excited to see Don't Look Up rather than Amsterdam (or whatever it will be called), and not just for its incredible A-list cast.
It's because weirdly enough i think McKay can improve as a filmmaker unlike O'Russell who has already reached his peak, and plus political satire seems to be more the former's comfort zone.

I have a feeling that Amsterdam would be more like I Heart Huckabees than Three Kinds and the Fighter. Only the final product will reveal if that's a good or a bad thing. Agreeing with the douchebag sentiment. I have more hope from Adam McKay who I expect to better control his negative tendencies in Vice over time.

I'd easily go McKay if DOR didn't have Flirting with Disaster.... It's tough, prob come down to their next efforts for me, but I'll stick with McKay ("D'you wanna go do karate in the garage?") - too many of DOR movies feel like empty gestures.
