Oh that would be awesome Oscar (his 6th of 9), Golden Globe (11 of his 19) and um BAFTA nodded (5th nominated role of 6 total, his 4th individual nomination of 5) .......yes, I would certainly be happy with that comic role for Denzel, exactly! Yeah, that was a weird diss. Whatever someone's opinion of it is, this is a multi-nominated performance which got the three big nods and even won the American Comedy Award (whatever it is) which is exactly what this thread is about. Nothing weird...I just don't think much of the performance. My opinion of course. I do find it interesting though that Pacinoyes repeatedly states that there is no meritocracy what so ever in these awards bodies, then uses the nominations from these awards bodies to argue the merit of a performance.

I mean, if one wanted to diss Pacino's comedy choices then surely it'd be wiser to go for "Jack & Jill" as opposed to the Oscar/GG/BAFTA nominated performance?

Go watch The Preacher's Wife and get offa ma' waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang (Nic Cage reference )

Some people diss Denzel's entire career even with all the acclaim he's received over the decades, so what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I don't think much of the film and performance.

I dunno, dissing Pacino's comedic abilities by using the one comedic performance he got the most nominations for instead of a Razzie-winning one is a strange choice, even if you personally dislike it. Dammit, usually I'm fine just reading them (and lol'ing) but now I'm in the Denzel/Pacino arguments rabbit hole commenting on how folks should have their Denzel/Pacino arguments. SOS!

Bale pairing up with Wes Anderson for something akin to TGBH would be a dream come true for me...

How about for actresses Viola Davis - who is extremely sharp and quick-witted in real life but who on screen can seem almost too self-serious - not in any individual role but in the totality of her dramatic roles especially in the last few years. She is in a very tough spot - the only African American Triple Crown winner EVER - male or female - and if she wins an Oscar this year (possible) she is on her way to doing it twice which is unheard of. So she carries a big burden sort of and keeps mining that heavy drama niche but she's dangerously close to playing "noble" to Death especially what you might expect her Michelle Obama role to be like coming soon. If she could get a comedy - one as smart as she appears on interviews - it would be a great plus for her and I'd like to see how she manages it in a lead....sort of like what Russell Crowe did in The Nice Guys which I wasn't a big fan of but for a lot of people took the heaviness of his screen persona down a little bit and people welcomed that with him.

One of the things that always keeps me at arm's length about Viola Davis as an actress is the perpetual self-seriousness with which she carries herself in films, as if to show any sort of humor or levity would be a sign of weakness. Which is a shame because, if you see her in interviews or other off-screen functions, she seems very free-spirited and less burdened by self-imposed gravitas. I don't know what sort of comedy I'd like to see her in, but I think she could pull off the sort of outsized villain that Daniel Day-Lewis made his bread and butter in the 2000s. Someone write a female Bill the Butcher for this woman.

Someone write a female Bill the Butcher for this woman. She's overcompensated with a reflexive imperiousness. I don't like it, and I don't like how people have fallen on their knees to embrace her as a monumental figure in cinema (presumably because of the dearth of black leading female movie stars). Shit has to be organic. Denzel is Denzel not because of any chicanery and propaganda.

Man, I just saw an interview with Michael B. Jordan and the dude is the most excruciating actor to watch irl imo - I told him to "use his head" with his career once on here ............and everybody freaked out - and I'm saying it again ftw because I wouldn't pay to see this guy take of his shirt unnecessarily in anything right now. ......needs to lighten up......... and I love Jessica Chastain but clearly a lot of people find her insufferable irl and a change-up would be most welcome from her right now too.

He seems like a nice guy, but he's not a good talker, and I have questions about the extent of his acting range. Chastain is a mess; she has no taste. She would have benefitted from the old-school star system, where the decision-making on what to do was at least partially taken out of her hands. It's like she doesn't assess the director or the script before signing onto anything.
