The movie is not great but she's easily miles above the best part of the movie. It was almost difficult for me to watch Glenn Close because I was reminded of my deceased grandmother who also came up from around the same area and culture. Her performance in my opinion was very accurate to the type of person specific to that area of the country. So I think just from the performance itself, she is worthy of a nomination.

She deserves an Oscar alright ...but not for that performance.

I dunno probably not for me..........but if Close gets a nod and is the sole nod for the film - possible, maybe even likely - that's 2 sole nods for her at over the age of 70 - afaik, that's unprecedented for a female (@tyler). Dafoe did it for males back to back in his 60s a few tears back .... Plummer did it for 2 of his 3 nods iirc in his 80s and actually won as a sole nominee . Old people rule, um........no one talks about this stat but it seems to be happening more and more that I can tell......

Not just a nom, probably the Oscar too.- The movie is weak but she is great there, and also she looks like the real life character.- I prefer her than the Borat girl, who portrayed herself, and is nominated 4 everything just because most of the critics and hollywood hates Giuliani.-
I haven't seen most of the contenders (not even Borat, because I hate Borat 1, and every Sacha Baron Cohen film, it's not personal, just not like his humour)-The only sparkle at the supporting cathegory, beside Close was Amanda Seyfried.-
Who are Close contenders, Seyfried that represent an actress that none remembers (because her fans are all dead), a little girl in a Tom Hanks movie, Colman that she will be nominated, but will lost at the end, an unknown asian old lady and Ellen Burstyn who was more snubed than Close.-
It' s her time, she is on an age, that we cannot wait until one Sunset Boulevard will made, just in the last minute Zendaya or Lady Gaga will take her role-

Yes. I found her performance very impressive. The movie sucks, no doubt but she manages to elevate weak writing, adds certain depth to her character, makes her more interesting, and by even looking at her make-up and wig, one could expect an over-the-top caricature but in Close's hands, she comes off only convincing, real and natural. She's doing everything that could be done with such material and is another testament to her versatility. If she gets nominated, I'd like to see her win. Sure, I'd want her to win for a better film/better written role but the future is unpredictable and it sucks to see a legend like her still has not won one.

Not really, but at the same time she definitely was fairly good in it. I just wish she got more scenes to chew on instead of reaction shots and stuff like that. I especially liked how she pulled off the humorous bits. That said, I don't think it's quite nomination-worthy material.

Definitely not, all of you are enablers for such a ham-fest. That look when she sees her dead husband , made me burst out laughing with how overcooked it is.

I wouldn't say so. She was just good in an awful movie.

Unlike some people I thought she was fine but it is not the sort of thing that needs a nod.

She's hamming it up while cosplaying as hillbilly in that godawful trash film. She's certainly the best thing about it but the bar is so low that it's enough that she's not flat out embarrassing to get a pass for it. It's a decent performance but she's certainly not deserving over other contenders like Youn Yuh-jung, Helena Zengel, Olivia Colman, Amanda Seyfried, Ellen Burstyn and Maria Bakalova. So no, I think it would be a highly undeserved win.

Glenn Close is not.

I loathed the film, but she was great in it, so...yeah she does.

She's the best thing about the film, not nom worthy but given the options, if it's her time, fine.

Glenn Close should be judged on her performance - and not the film itself. She is playing against type.
This goes back to the argument - is it tougher to be good in a not great film - or to be good in a great film.

I don't know maybe un a couple of years I Will praise the movie and the actress. Or maybe the praisers Will hate film. Oh Will praise the girl because we hate Giuliani in 2020

As someone who really does not like Glenn Close... I liked her in this movie. I thought her last two Oscar noms were jokes, I thought this movie was a farce... But I really liked her in it. Does she deserve to be top 5 of the year? I don’t think I have an actual lineup yet, but I think she was better than say Seyfried (who I love) who a lot of people here were championing for some reason. The only other contender I’ve seen is Bakalova, who I probably like a little better, but then she isn’t supporting so why compare?

I thought she did fine with the overly saccharine material. I'll say a begrudging "sure", because much worse perfs have been nominated.
