Boseman was great and the best thing about his film. Lindo was incredible and the best thing about his film.

For me the two are incredibly close and almost impossible to pick between, but today I'm leaning more towards Lindo.

I loved Da 5 Bloods and thought Lindo was brilliant, but from a technical perspective, Boseman's performance in Ma Rainy's Black Bottom felt a lot more difficult to pull off, so I'll go with Chad.
I can't really think of any star of note in Boseman's age or playing range who could have pulled off Levee. They'd have to find some unknown from Broadway. The rhythms and nuance of the language and character in that piece are so specific, that it's clear only someone of Boseman's extensive theatre training and background could have done the role justice. People like Jamie Foxx and Michael B Jordan, fine actors they may be, would have floundered in that role. Wheras, I can see a fair few actors in Lindo's age and playing range doing his role justice (Sam Jackson, Denzel etc).

Well, I came on this board and said basically that Boseman will win the Oscar because he died .....and everyone lost their shit over my saying that blah blah blah.......but, now people say it all the time, because well he is and I'm pretty much saying stuff everyone else just agrees with months later aren't I? I think you can see other actors playing the Boseman part - though he is great - but Lindo stamps his role more uniquely...if you isolate on just those 2 guys that's the noticeable difference.

Yeah, most people took issue with you saying Boseman would win because he's black as well, which you are literally the only person on the internet to even go there. You said what you said. No need to whitewash it. Pun intended.

Yeah, most people took issue with you saying Boseman would win because he's blackRight because no one else has said that that race matters - especially this year...... In regards to a reason as to Boseman potentially winning......no one else has said race is a factor, but you. Because it's a blindingly racist statement in regards to this specific actor and performance. My advice is just take the L on this one and move on. People have short memories on this board, so it'll mostly be forgotten about or barely mentioned eventually. But not if you keep reminding everybody of it like you were some sort of hard-done by victim. That is never going to sell.

I prefer Lindo, but it's a razor-thin margin and both would be very fine winners.

Boseman is very, very good. He would be contending for awards regardless of anything, it's a dynamic and electricying performance that fills the screen. But Lindo takes the edge. What he achieved in Da 5 Bloods is next level, and the emotional extremes he reached in his close-up monologues thrilled me.

Lindo. Boseman was very good imo but not great. Delroy was flat out amazing.

Both were amazing and would be terrific winners for Best Actor. But if I have to choose just one, I have to go with Lindo. Gave the performance of his life and one of the greatest performances ever in a Lee movie with his turn as Paul. A guilt-ridden, tragic character that ironically enough August Wilson would be very proud of for someone coming up with. His direct-to-camera monologue will be taught in acting schools and re-interpreted for years to come.

Honestly I would probably go with Boseman, but that shouting at god scene gives it to Lindo. Spike laid the groundwork far better for his mad ramblings to all work.

It's looking more and more like Lindo won't win which is a shame since it is clearly the performance of the year. Giving Boseman supporting for the same movie would really be the perfect compromise since there isn't one as deserving as Lindo there.

Lindo. I'd love to see him getting the Oscar. He had always been a reliable character actor with some truly awesome performances to his name and now he delivered probably the best acting performance of the year, it's just great to see him finally getting the recognition he deserves.
Boseman's work was very good also. If he wins, then I'm totally fine with it too. It's shaping up to be a great year for the category; Riz was amazing in "Sound of Metal" and I've never liked Hopkins this much since early 90s. I'm excited to see what LaKeith will do in "Judas and the Black Messiah".

Both are great, I expected a lot from Lindo and I wasn't disappointed and Boseman actually surprised me because I always had my doubts about him as an actor but he pulled it off brillantly. That being said, Lindo is too much of a force with a colossal, terrifying presence that I simply can't vote against him.
