Cage's lineup is by far the more interesting for me, mainly because he has a collaboration with Sion Sono, who is among my all time favorite directors, while Dafoe will be in films by Wes Anderson and Guillermo del Toro who are two directors I just don't care much about. As for their acting, they are definitely among my favorite actors of their generation and I probably rank them above more acclaimed names (like Hanks, Washington and Spacey for instance).

Nothing in Cage's 2021 projects convinces me. Dafoe all the way.

Cage's 2021 is everything. The Northman is the only thing Dafoe's got that I'm psyched for (and I am extremely so), but come on, Cage's catalogue in 2021 is the cinematic cure for COVID.

Ethan Hawke in an old interview once said that Nicolas Cage is trying to reinvent acting with his performances, just like Brando, DeNiro and DDL did before him. Wild statement. But yeah, i'm gonna choose Cage.

Easily two of my favorite actors of all time. I slightly prefer Dafoe generally, but Cage's 2021 lineup looks fucking incredible.

Dafoe is working with better filmmakers and those are major projects (I'm dying to see his "Heimir the Fool" in The Northman). But stillll easily Cage! He's got an advantage here as he's leading his movies; Dafoe seems to be supporting or smaller in his. Cage might also shoot his Joe Exotic project in Q1 of 2021 and we might see it by year end. Can we count History of Swear Words too (January--Netflix) as a sort of comedic "performance" ....

2 guys who many would argue have more talent than their big generational rivals - Hanks, Washington, Penn, Spacey - certainly they often go places you couldn't picture those guys going to anyway. Both have insane 2021 films both big and very quirky: Dafoe: The French Dispatch (Wes Anderson), Nightmare Alley (Del Toro), The Card Counter (Schrader), The Northman (Robert Eggers) Cage: Pig, Prisoners of The Ghostland (Sion Sono), Willy's Wonderland, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent Whose 2021 lineup appeals to you more - Dafoe's is almost impossibly big time..........Cage's is almost impossibly Cage-like but with potentially his highest upside (ever?). This poll is closed but I wonder if having seen the trailer now for Willy's Wonderland and seeing those somewhat middling reactions for Prisoners of the Ghostland - there were good reviews too but if you really read them this won't likely play outside his cult I reckon - would now change their votes in the poll. I didn't vote in my own polls but Dafoe is kind of smoking his 80s peers - sight unseen these days - Washington's a cop (again) in a poorly reviewed pic, Hanks is in a strongly reviewed flick (again) that isn't really causing much excitement though tbh, Penn is directing himself in his next one which seems minor (and is never a good sign), Cage is being Cage which is fine by me but unless one of these sticks the landing it's indie to a fault, Spacey is well you know out of the picture, Bridges is ill but moving to TV also.........meanwhile Dafoe has these 4 in 2021 which are AT LEAST intriguing if not guaranteed to be of some quality............ and possibly the Lanthimos at some point.......he can be cast in almost anything lately it seems, and be playing any type of role and doesn't seem hemmed in any way - he seems YOUNGER at 65. If I was a Dafoe fanboy it would be Chicken Chow Mein and Lizard shoes every day these days (try to get THAT reference ) ........just sayin'........I may be jinxing him though

So what happens when Washington reaches #9 next year? Pacino is about to have company again.

Poll closed ..................but an update since both guys had movies moved to 2022 - arguably their 2 biggies - Dafoe still has a stacked last 6 months with 3 biggies, 1 more for Cage (Pig) - but 2 for 2 Fresh for Cage this year on RT this year so far and people say he's inconsistent .......... Dafoe: Still Pending: The French Dispatch (Wes Anderson), Nightmare Alley (Del Toro), The Card Counter (Schrader), The Northman (now 2022) (Robert Eggers) Cage: (still pending) Pig, Prisoners of The Ghostland (Sion Sono) - 74% Rotten Tomatoes, Willy's Wonderland 61% , The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (now 2022)

Any way Dafoe was a much better actor in the 80s, trully Cage shined on the 90s, not in the 80s. Dafoe was more than excellent in the 80s, was like the epitome of the 80s Actor.-

Idk when it got added, but Dafoe is officially listed on IMDb for Spider-Man No Way Home, which could be the most popular movie of the year, and "insider" Daniel Richtman a few days ago said he'll be a major villain, not just a cameo.
Since the last post here we got French Dispatch reviews - almost no mentions of Dafoe in what seems like a very small part. And there was the Card Counter trailer where he seems mostly in the background but may play more prominently.
Even tho Gostland and Willy's Wonderland (oof) weren't so good, I think Pig is pretty huge for Cage... I've never seen so much love for him from filmmakers and critics... and if, by some staying chance, he gets Oscar nominated then he will def be this poll's champ.
2022 will be another battle royale. They both have Westerns comin' (Dead for a Dollar; Butcher's Crossing) but Dafoe with an Eggers and a Yorgos is insane.
