Now that it's on Game Pass, I finally got to play it. Certainly one of the best resource management games out there, maybe not so much in the sense of the management but in its story telling. If you really immerse yourself, the characters actually start to feel like your children.
My first playthrough, I gave up about of a third of the way through because I realized that you absolutely cannot appease everyone without going into severe bankruptcy... so the second one I was definitely more picky as to what I deemed worthy and what I didn't (still got swindled a couple of times, lousy bastards).
I think I got the good ending? Or at least I got most of it... I don't want to look it up because I want to see if I can get other endings, but I'm happy-ish about the results.
Anyway, it was a fun way to spend 6ish hours.

That's an odd way to spell Alien: Isolation.
It's like we're not even friends anymore.

My first playthrough is generally fucked. These people really ask for too much. I'm at a point where I'm doomed regardless of what I do. Sure, I saved a billion times but who has the energy to load each one until I get to a decent point to try again on? I mind as well just start all over. And then that'll be who knows how long of just mashing a button to "skip conversation" until I get to another point of no return. That said, I do like it. The writing, characters, and consequences to the most inane requests can prove to be entertaining. I like and dislike that there's so much opportunity to fail and fuck your game over without even meaning to. I guess I can just pretend the King is experiencing some sort of groundhog day to rationalize how much save scumming I'll have to do to be successful. I only got up to a few weeks past the wedding and I was literally one measly gold short of appealing to the crazed mob. I think I'll try to find a save before oh-so stupidly giving that one lady 28 damn gold for whatever reason it was.

I know the major plot points are 100% scripted, but it would be interesting if in one game a certain person swindles you and the next they are actually helpful.

I hope not. That would be very cruel. I wish it would let you hear everyone's propositions/requests before making a decision. As sending a general to find some random stupid child instead of sending him to help stave off attackers of a village is rather annoying. But the game does tell you that people in general might be lying, it's just hard to tell who is (unless someone warns you about them, but even then, I suppose they could be lying about that).
