Actresses included of course. Let's make our own lists! I'll update with mine!
Edit: This is quite difficult.

Well you can make it easier by just listing some of the people........after you get past 15 it's pretty random, for me at least.........but top 15.....much easier I'm getting dizzy trying to assess transcendent TV work that isn't matched by a robust series of film performances. Someone like Cillian Murphy for Peaky Blinders (and Cranston/Gandolfini for that matter). Also, I don't know what to think of Huppert. I haven't seen enough of her French performances. I thought Leung was sensational in Lust, Caution (though Tang Wei was better), but I haven't seen enough of his stuff. In the Mood for Love as a movie impressed me more than the individual performance, and I remember more about the cinematography of Hero than the performances. I definitely have Leo, Denzel, Gosling, PSH. Wock, Winslet, Bardem, Crowe, are likely. Damon, Mikkelsen, Mortensen, Swinton are in the mix.

This is just 15 .....I just did people on film and TV but they have to be movie stars first and foremost - Gandolfini and Cranston are locks clearly but I didn't list them here.
Top 5 would be something like this below......
1 - Huppert 2 - PSH 3 - Day-Lewis 4 - Phoenix 5 - DiCaprio
No order:
Dafoe Blanchett Bale Streep
Pacino (his TV work makes this possible) Washington (But tbh I can only list at most 4 legit "great" performances in 22 films (?!?) in the last 20 years for him) Javier Bardem Michelle Williams Adele Haenel Gosling

I haven't ! Looks very good. I saw Black Tide also from 2018 were he goes to some interesting places and that's an unlike him perf too. Even though his peaks are '05-'07, everything else I've seen he hasn't let down, with tense focus or a gliding charm.... Still doesn't have a Cesar win either (He may be the only living guy with four+ Best Actor noms without a win, I gotta double check that though).

My movie watching range is not as extensive as you guys. As a result, there are more traditional "movie stars" on my list that you guys might care for Bale Defoe Blanchet Oldman Keanu Day Lewis Pattinson Saoirse Ronan Hanks Olivia Colman Phoenix Swinton Cruise Sam Rockwell Woody Harrelson Theron Margot Robbie Austin Abrams Chalamet Amy Adams Brad Pitt Leonardo DiCaprio Tom Holland Chris Evans Steve Carrell Roughly ranked. Hard to believe that but 5 years ago, Lawrence, B Cooper and J Gyllenhaal would all have been on this list. They will have to do something special to come up again for me now PS: 1. Jim Carrey, Lisa Kudrow, Mathew Perry, Matt Damon and Martin Starr round off my top list to a neat 30. 2. I'm totally ashamed by the lack of female names on this. I really need to unstick my watching preferences from the long list of awesome male actors out there!

It's impossible for me to come up with 25 without leaving some great ones but Irrfan Khan hands down is the actor of the century for me. Which is so sad

Al Pacino Cate Blanchett Isabelle Huppert Joaquin Phoenix Judy Davis Javier Bardem Nicolas Cage Willem Dafoe Daniel Day-Lewis Christian Bale
Leo DiCaprio Song Kang-ho Ethan Hawke Kate Winslet Billy Bob Thornton Johnny Depp Sam Rockwell Stephen Graham Adele Haenel Tom Hanks
Olivia Colman Meryl Streep Michelle Williams Helen Mirren Charlotte Rampling
Not a real ranking. But that's where I'm at. Only working actors (cheated for DDL but I think he'll be back after a while).
Worst omissions: Gosling & Denzel, but there's too much coasting - too much talent unexplored. H/M to a lot of great younger actresses that could easily be argued in... Camille Cottin, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Doona Bae.
Did 2021 hike anyone in particular up or down for you?
