Extreme bait! But good excuse to post this great interview with James Badge Dale where he talks about Denzel becoming his "acting hero" after working with him for that one scene in Flight, because of how laser focused Denzel was in the scene, despite the fact that he had no lines and was only there to react to Badge Dale. Badge Dale said he'd always been a fan (Badge Dale said his performance in The Hurricane changed the way he looked at film acting when he was at drama school), but after that he also aspired to be like him and have his work ethic. He talks about it from 21:10--

Hmmmm so many thoughts revisiting that scene ........basically how that's one of Washington's top 5 ever performances - love that performances - and to me he's a guy who doesn't have THAT many "great" ones either.... How marvelous that scene is..... ......but also .....how daring that movie is .......until the very end when the middle brow hack Robert Zemeckis reverts to his default position of sappy emotionalism and I like some of his films but..... the very ending of Flight (Oscar nodded screenplay!) is a total botch. A pacinoyes-ism is "endings matter" ..........well Flight goes from an 8+/10 to something like a ~7 in almost record time......It's an extremely hard movie to rate actually........literally the last 3 or 4 scenes in quick succession are tonal dealbreakers to me....

GOAT level performance by Zel in this movie, probably the finest, most spot-on performance of a high-functioning alcoholic I have ever seen. And he completely gave up booze during (for) the filming and what he is able to reach in some scenes, purely on acting, is, to me, miraculous. So many alcoholic/addiction performances that are often called great are beyond cheated and overrated. As for the scene stealer guy, JBD is terrific here and he is a very interesting actor in general, I wish he was cast in better, meatier stuff. He and Camila Morrone work really well together in Mickey and the Bear (2019).

Was he originally supposed to play another role in Flight? No 24 fans here? Oh well. Loved him as Chase Edmunds.
