Not a good game to play: Imagine Collette trying to pull off what Blanchett did in Blue Jasmine or Elizabeth or Aviator.

Well.......just a couple comments: Blanchett is a better actress than Colette.........Kidman........Swinton.......Dern........anybody in her English speaking age range at least. She's played real life people, created classic fictional characters, played leads, ensembles, played outside her gender (!) (more than once too, um), she can do comedy winningly, she sings (!) .......and she has a whole lot of work too .....where she's done it constantly in every medium. Not sure what the anti-Blanchett peeps on this board want from her......for her to be less technically gifted? She has best of decade performances in 4 decades in a row (90s-20s)...... Fiennes is ....maybe not "better" than Oldman but should be in that discussion wayyyyyyyyyy more than he is for the DDL/Oldman (and maybe Rylance nowadays) UK class: He has the single best and most complicated performance I've ever seen on a stage (Hamlet)........he can do comedy better than all of them.......he's starred in 2 BP winners they all have 0 (not counting DDL in Gandhi)....he's just a huge talent........maybe his "career" is quirky and weird but....

Toni Collette > Cate Blanchett Ralph Fiennes > Gary Oldman I absolutely agree with these assessments. The others I understand, but can't really co-sign.

I don't know if Fiennes is necessarily better than Oldman, but I just prefer him. He's less versatile, but I don't remember ever seeing a bad performance by him, and he's very, very consistent, probably more than Oldman. And when he's fantastic, he's as good as anyone.

Imagining Blanchett try to pull off what Collette did in Hereditary gives me douche chills. Not a good game to play: Imagine Collette trying to pull off what Blanchett did in Blue Jasmine or Elizabeth or Aviator. Also not a good move to cite one of Blanchett's most gratingly false performances. Listen, I like her as much as the next person, but she's turned in some legitimately questionable work.

I actually don't think Oldman is that versatile, he wears a lot of different hats but also has a tendency to overwhelm the role with his shticky tricks. Fiennes can get a bit hammy on occasion, but he covers a comparable range of characters with less visible effort.

Gratingly false?? Well, she got an Oscar for that one. After all, everything is a matter of personal taste.

Toni Collette > Cate Blanchett Well, after her recent spate of uninspired work in the last 5 years Blanchett is definitely moving down my overall rankings for actressess in general. She's really run out of ideas for me, and you can tell that her strongest loyalists are trying by tooth and nail to make sure she becomes another Streep, where you are supposed to believe everything she does is beyond reproach and deserves an award. Her reputation as a film actress is starting to feel bloated. One Streep is enough, thank you very much The way some people were acting like her OK television work in Mrs America was some once-in-a-lifetime performance that would sweep everything in it's path like DDL in There Will Be Blood was almost hilarious to me . I knew that was never going to happen, but there was a lot of work being put in by her fans to gaslight people that no one else could possibly touch her for the Emmy. After all, she is the Cate Blanchett. So seeing that performance lose everywhere easily to Regina King, who already had 3 Emmys and didn't need another, for a performance that came out last year and her fans brushed off as old news and no threat, definitely showed that kool-aid wasn't drunk. Blanchett is a talented actress, and I'm prepared to believe she is still capable of truly great work in the future, but I'm no longer drinking the kool-aid. She gets too much of an easy pass based on reputation, which defies critical thinking. Collette is a great actress, but there are some notable spots in her filmography I haven't seen (like some of her TV stuff). I'm inclined to look at them, and if they are strong enough, I may be very likely to put her over Blanchett now, who has gotten into pretty overrated territory for me (despite being a gifted actress)

Ralph Fiennes > Gary Oldman I definitely agree with this. Both both have delivered some great performances, but Gary Oldman also has several performances I consider atrocious (his work with Besson for instance). Ralph Fiennes is generally much more consistent and I prefer his best work to Oldman's as well. Here's some of my controversial opinions regarding actors/actresses: Keira Knightley >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Natalie Portman Harvey Keitel > Dustin Hoffman Rachel Weisz > Kate Winslet Glenn Ford > Gregory Peck Juliette Binoche > Isabelle Huppert

Portman has had much juicier projects to showcase herself, so that gives her an almost unfair advantage.

I've never liked her as an actress and my opinion for her hasn't changed in recent years, it has actually cemented even more. I just find her acting "quirky" in all the wrong ways, fake and unnatural. I've rarely bought anything she has done and her acting has generally rubbed me the wrong way in most stuff I've seen her in.

I actually don't think Oldman is that versatile, he wears a lot of different hats but also has a tendency to overwhelm the role with his shticky tricks. This is basically a perfect description of Johnny Depp, not Gary Oldman. Oldman is on the same level as the over-praised Daniel Day-Lewis. Too bad Oldman has a lot of bad roles and movies in his filmography. If he had only like 15 movies in his whole career, he would be considered DDL level. One have had many mistakes and lows, while the other was careful not to show his limitations and weaknesses.

These are your opinions...what's the point of stating them as if they're factual?
