Denzel looks like he's giving a helping hand to many of his old generational peers and rivals in the African-American acting community. If its's true Laurence Fishburne is being circled for a future role, then I suspect someone like Wesley Snipes (another former peer and rival) might not be far behind.
It'd be fascinating if Denzel got Fish, Snipes and Sam Jackson, guys he came up with and sometimes competed with for parts (in theatre and film) Oscars.

I called it with Fishburne..had a feeling he would be involved since he’s well versed with August Wilson having done Two Trains Running on Broadway and Fences out in LA. I think of those three Jackson has the best shot to not only be nominated but also to win. Not only is he familiar with The Piano Lesson (he was part of the original cast when the play first premiered), but he’s working with a great auteur in Barry Jenkins who’s an Academy favorite and a cinephile/critics favorite so this might be Jackson’s most prestigious film on paper with the material and who’s involved in a very long time. Plus he’s only been nominated once in his career, never won an Oscar, actors love working with him and he’s probably worked with pretty much damn near everybody in the industry..lol. Matter of fact..this is really early..but I might call him the early front runner for Best Actor in the Oscar season this film comes out to.

I wish I wasn't so underwhelmed by Moonlight and Beale Street. Dude is straight up amateurish to me. Spike is hit or miss, but I see far more brilliance in panned stuff like She Hate Me than Jenkins' entire career.

No please, not with Samuel L. Jackson, extremely annoying actor.

Cast (including Ray Fisher and Danielle Brooks) have started rehearsals for the Broadway Play, so I imagine the film version is likely to start shooting as soon as the run ends.
