Nah, just watch the trailer and imagine we got some Zodiac meets Chinatown meets L.A. Confidential level work instead of a fiasco. Also, Swank was pretty good, and the great Fiona Shaw horrendously bad.
My second favorite supporting actress performance of all time, with cinematography and a score that I personally rate in my top ten of all time, and production design that is pretty damn close. The rest of the film has its issues, but I still think it's worth watching.
The movie overall gives the impression that De Palma is a faltering director - some of its components work but overall the total film makes you think what would De Palma have done with this when he was at his peak.
What does indeed sound intriguing on paper unfortunately turns out to be a rather disappointing mess. But if you're into De Palma then this should not be missed - as heavily flawed as it is, misfires like this are still quite intriguing to assess. And at least you'll have something to satisfy your eyes with as the visual side of the film is quite wonderful.
Oh honey, it's hilarious just for Fiona Shaws scenes. I think she was in the wrong movie.
