In January or February are in a position to take advantage of the extended eligibility period? Or do you believe an overwhelming vast majority of the films will be released during the calendar year will be nominated?
Obviously, the studios could still change their schedules around before the year is done, but as of right now what do you think?
Thanks in advance for any comments or opinions!!!!

I think there's a slight possibility that The Tragedy of Macbeth and Next Goal Wins drop during that time.

Agree with Macbeth as a slight possibility. They've already apparently resumed filming on it, and are just about finished with 70% of it. I'll also add Nightmare Alley as a "maybe well probably not" possibility as well (they plan to resume shooting it in the fall), and if we include movies that are already complete, Disney might release The French Dispatch around that time too, just so it can qualify for awards. Otherwise every other major awards contender, especially the streaming stuff is basically on the same track as before.

I feel like they're gonna keep Macbeth until next year's Oscar season so as to prevent McDormand from cancelling herself out between it and Nomadland. Even if she doesn't give a shit either way, the studio will want to promote both her and Washington, and considering this was her passion project, better to have it for next year so that if she doesn't win for Nomadland, she's just got momentum the following year.

Whether it ends up being this year or next, I wouldn't be surprised if they push McDormand supporting anyway.

From what I hear, this adaptation is going to emphasize Lady Macbeth's role as undeniably co-lead. It's about the couple together, not just about how she influences him. They might try to wangle a category fraud supporting run for her, but there's no real reason to if they just wait a year. Better to hold off so it can make next year's circuit and take advantage of what might be a weaker field in Best Actress. And Best Actor as well; they probably wanna build up momentum for a push for Denzel's third Oscar as well, and with Hopkins in the way this year, they probably would do better to hold off.

Fair. Didn't really think about that. It's probably going to get pushed to 2021. It was really more wishful thinking on my part.

I guess no actual contenders will get released early 2021, plus Macbeth will be kept for next year's Oscars, in order to get a proper campaign.
