Was rooting for the Canes, but now that they're out of it, I guess I'm team Rangers at the moment since I would prefer not to have a Tampa threepeat... though as I said last year, it would be nice to see a Canadian team win again...

Well that didn't take long to have my fave team bounced from the playoffs as the Avalanche sweep the Oilers - sort of reminiscent of Gretzky's Oilers getting swept by the Islanders but that was in a final by a dynasty and that team was a lot closer - this is just another playoff disappointment for McDavid - though he was great of course.......ah well......wait til next year.....can the Rangers knock off Tampa.........Game 4 tonight they lead 2-1 and were one period away from being up 3-0
16 games - 10 goals, 23 assists, 33 points - 2+ PPG

Ugh, the Rangers were 1 period away from being up 3 games to 0 back in Game 3 and now are down 3 games to 2 .........Lightning winning 3 in a row if they pull it out and beat Colorado would be an all timer thing - hasn't been done since the 80s Islanders.....

Well, that certainly ended in typical Rangers style - 1 period away from being up 3-0 - they never would lead the series again. 3 straight Cups for Tampa? That lineup can still score a lot across a lot of guys - very quickly - but now they can slow it down and just stall you at central ice. Very frustrating team .......this year especially........

Avalanche can close this out tonight - MAR responds with crickets - which often happens that you close it out when a team wins an overtime game like they did previously (in Game 4)....especially a controversial, heartbreaking one. They really should close this out because the Lightning have played a lot better after that 7-0 beating in Game 2 and are still dangerous......they can always score 1 goal and shut you down .......at their best.....

Back to Tampa for Game 6.....gulp.....pretty terrific series so far and one in which one play is deciding games or at least being endlessly argued after the fact:

Not only did the Avalanche end the series and deny the threepeat, they did it on the Lighning's home ice in a very Lightning way - got the 2-1 lead and clamped them down afterwards. Good chatter this year from the board on the NHL - very masculine and impressive.......yes, that's sarcasm

Congrats to the Leafs finally making out of the first round again, those OT games were great games. Forum vet Waterloobridge is probably very happy.

Another first time franchise victory - just like Denver in the NBA - congrats to the Las Vegas Golden Knights......and congrats to MAR who proved the NHL is still about as popular as tooth decay or doing your taxes with the roaring silence that is our yearly tradition .......

Oh my........what did he do? Piss in the Punch Bowl? .........This sounds like something 65% of our board could say daily tbh............ if you just replace Chicago Blackhawks with MAR........ Corey Perry released a statement on Thurday, addressing his contract being terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks.
"I would like to sincerely apologize to the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization, including ownership, management, coaches, trainers, employees, and my teammates. I would also like to apologize to my fans, and my family. I am embarrassed and I have let you all down,” Perry wrote.
“As a result of my actions, there has been speculation and rumours. I am sickened by the impact this has had on others, and I want to make it clear that in no way did this situation involve any of my teammates or their families. Most importantly, I want to directly apologize to those who have been negatively affected and I am sorry for the additional impact to others it has created. My behaviour was inappropriate and wrong.
“I have started working with experts in the mental health and substance abuse fields to discuss my struggles with alcohol and I will take whatever steps necessary to ensure this never happens again. I hope to regain the trust and respect of everyone who has believed in me throughout my career.
“Once again, I am deeply sorry."

McDavid going for that Cup bitches because you can't be "better than Gretzky" (um, no) without 1 at least EDMONTON, Alberta -- Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl each had a goal and two assists, and the Edmonton Oilers won their 16th straight game to move within one of tying the NHL record, defeating the Nashville Predators 4-1 on Saturday.
Edmonton will attempt to tie the record set by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins when its returns from the All-Star break to play at Vegas on Feb. 6. The Oilers matched the 2016-17 Columbus Blue Jackets for the second-longest streak.
"This past week wasn't our best hockey," McDavid said, summing up a run in which the Oilers defeated the Chicago Blackhawks and Blue Jackets before topping the Predators. "But we found a way to get three wins, which is a great sign."
